I LOVE A Challenge!
I have been making these wallets for a couple of months now, using a pattern called Koin Keeper from This & That by Sherri K. Falls. I bought it on Etsy, and have good sales from the completed items.

Then, the other day, one of my best customers, Froggi Donna, asked me if I could make her one with the zipper pocket on the outside. Well, I took that as a challenge to see what I could do. And here is what I came up with:

This design also gives three extra card slots, and an open “pocket” on the outside. This one closed with velcro, but I have magnetic snap closures too.
So, what do you think? Is it a “love it” or a “back to the drawing board” solution? What challenge do YOU have for me? For instance, my sister wants a zippered bag to hold her wireless mouse when she travels. I’m just waiting for the measurements for that. I am going to give this purple one away to one of my readers. Just comment, telling me what your challenge for me would be. I’ll pick a winner by random number generator. Remember to leave me an email address where I can get in touch with you if you are the winner. Give away ends November 6, 2010.
My Turkey Hunt Was A Success!
There are lots of wild turkeys here, but they are hard to find for most of the season. In fall, th0ugh, you may see a whole flock of them in a meadow, taking advantage of all the seeds falling from the grass and wildflowers out there. And while hunting is prohibited at the Grand Canyon National Park, but I went hunting today anyway–with my camera. My quest was a huge success!

And Susan guessed it, so she wins this one. I’ll be making some more for sale on my Etsy store. And Poppa–I’m glad you commented on here. It’s about time!
Can You Guess What This Is?

I posted a photo of this in Facebook and asked the same question. There have been many guesses so far but none have been correct. The first person to guess correctly what this is, will be the new owner of it. Have fun guessing, and I will let you know if you are right.
What Does A Lawn Mower Have To Do With It?
19 years ago today, on Labor Day Weekend in 1991, I went to the hardware store to buy a bolt for my lawn mower. There was a bolt missing from one side of the handle, so that it kept falling down and making it difficult to push the mower. I had been dealing with the faulty handle all summer, and that day I came to the end of my frustration quotient. I went inside, got a pair of pliers, and took the bolt off the other side. I jumped in the car and drove to the hardware store to buy another bolt.
When I walked in, there was this cute guy standing there talking to the store manager, who just happened to be my brother-in-law. So, the cute guy helped me find a bolt to match the one I had in my hand. He was very charming, and kept up a conversation with me while we looked for the right bolt. After I made my purchase, I went home, repaired the mower, and finished cutting the grass.
But, I couldn’t get that guy out of my head. I went in the house and called the hardware store. I asked my brother-in-law “what is that guy’s name that waited on me today?” and he told me. I asked, “Is he married?” and my brother-in-law said no. So, I said, “Well, give him my phone number and tell him if he is interested in going out to dinner to give me a call.” And he did.
I cried when we sold that lawn mower.

Gluten Free On Sale?
We went over to Utah to buy groceries today. While I was in town, I picked up a newspaper. This is the grocery ad on the back page of the first section of the newpaper:

I have never seen an ad for a sale on gluten free products in a newspaper. I know I have been able to find gluten free items in most grocery stores in Utah (which is NOT the case in other states, like Alabama, Arizona, and Georgia). I think it is wonderful! I just wish there were one of those stores near me.
Mother Of The Bride Dress Ordered: Check

While I won’t look as slim and sleek as that model, I have ended the search for my Mother Of The Bride dress for Becky’s wedding. I have only been shopping and searching for it since August of last year. This one has all the things I was looking for: It has sleeves, because I do not do sleeveless. It has a beaded or sequined bodice. It comes in amethyst, which is a color I like and that looks good on me. And it was reasonably affordable. It takes 11-16 weeks for delivery, the website says, so it will be a while before I can model it and see how close to her I look in this dress. I am just glad that the dress has been ordered. Now I just need to find some shoes, and a nice necklace to wear with it. The hunt is on…..
