The Flower Girl Dress Is Powerless Over Me!
After months of it watching me cower in the corner, I finally made my move, and have emerged victorious over the Flower Girl Dress. While it thought it would leave me in a huddled mess, I stood up to the challenge of it’s incredible super powers. The Slick Fabric:

The dastardly Invisible Zipper:

The Stiff Fabric Sash:

The Full Lining:

The defeated enemy:

And again:

I am glad I took the challenge of making this dress. I learned some new techniques, and figured out how to put a lining in a dress when none is called for in the pattern. It was interesting, and fun. I still have some “finger work” left to do, but it is basically finished. I can’t hem it because the Flower Girl lives 250 miles from me, but I hate hemming anyway. We’ll have to wait until June to see a picture of Adayla wearing it. Stefanie and Adam are getting married on June 18. Next, I get to make the Sash For The Bride.
Sigh….They Cancelled The Mattress Delivery
After I made that post about getting the new mattress, I got a phone call saying that “‘Due to severe weather in the Birmingham area, we won’t be able to deliver your mattress until Friday”. So we pouted a little bit, but then we were happy because when we woke up today, it was Friday, and we could anticipate the deliver again, and hence, a good night’s sleep. Until the phone rang again this morning, telling us yet again, that they would not be delivering the mattress until Saturday.
So, here we are again waiting. I’ll let ya know.
Ever Felt Like A Fembot?
My new long line undergarment contraption arrived in today’s mail. I could hardly wait to try it on, to see if it fit. After shopping all over Tuscaloosa and online, I finally found one in my size. It does fit, so I am so relieved! I now have everything I need for the wedding.
What? You thought I was going to model it? Honestly, when I put it on, I sort of felt like one of those Fembots from the Austin Powers movie:
We’re Gonna Sleep Good Tonight!
We bought the RV we live in four years ago in December. If you have ever slept in an RV, you know that the standard mattress that comes with it is not so comfortable. We have talked about getting a new one for a couple of years, but just never did.
Last week when we were in Tuscaloosa, we stopped in a mattress store to talk about getting one. They said they could make one to order to fit our bed. You see, RV mattresses don’t come in standard bed sizes. I think they pull the measurements out of their butt for them. I have two sets of sheets–a king size one that is too big, and a queen size one that is too small. Whenever I make up the bed, I am either tucking in several inches on all 4 sides of the fitted sheet, or struggling to stretch it to just barely fit. While the new bed won’t solve that problem, it will be more comfortable.
It is going to be delivered today. Which means I have to move my sewing table. Which means I have to move the sewing machine, the sewing supplies, and the flower girl dress I am still working on. Then, after we get the old mattress out, and the new one in, I have to move it all back again. I am not looking forward to all that work. But I am gonna sleep good tonight.
I Want A One Of These

My family who loves me knows that I don’t DO Valentine’s Day, nor do I often ask for gifts. And when these first came out, I didn’t think I would like them. But, since I got my Droid X in November, I have been thinking more and more that THIS would be a good thing for me to have.
Because I live in an RV, and love to read, and books are so heavy, and heavy is not good for RV, AND because I when I am working there is a lot of slow time, and this would fit so great in a backpack, I thing it is more that I NEED one of these. It is not a WANT but a NECESSITY! So, because it is something I NEED, I will just this once accept a gift for Valentine’s Day if anyone would like to send me one. Purty Please. With a cherry on top? Oh, and you don’t necessarily have to be family to get me one of these. hahahahaha!
And NO, this is not an AD. It is a Plea. No, not a plea–I am BEGGING. Oh, and don’t forget there is Mother’s Day, and my birthday, and Tuesday, all very good reasons to get me something.
Genetically Engineered Food–Where Do You Stand?
As someone who was affected adversely by the food I was eating, and who has been following this issue in the news for a while now, I was saddened to learn that an agency of our government that is supposed to be protecting us against contamination of our food supply is getting ready to deregulate the planting of genetically engineered alphalfa seed. These seeds are engineered to withstand pesticides like Round-up™, which is a poison. How did we ever get to the point where a large corporation’s interests could come before the welfare of the people of America?
The USDA decision favors the interests of the biotech industry, and deals a major blow to both organic farming and the public’s right to choose foods free of GE contamination. How do they know that the resulting food offered for sale will be safe for us to eat? How can they predict that the long-term consequences of consuming genetically altered food won’t be harmful to us all? While the decision only allows for planting of genetically altered alphalfa, which is fed to cows, the plans for genetically altered corn, sugar beets, and soy are already under way.
Those four plants make up a large part of the human diet, either directly by eating corn, sugar and soy products, or indirectly by eating beef. This issue affects us all, not just people who want to eat organically. With deregulation of planting, there will be no way to stop the spread of genetically altered plants, as they cross pollinate with other crops.
Please take the time to read this letter from Maria Rodale, Michael Pollan, and the organic community and learn how to take action. Here is an excerpt from that letter:
“USDA’s decision to allow unlimited, nationwide commercial planting of
Monsanto’s GE Roundup Ready alfalfa without any restrictions flies in the face of the interests of conventional and organic farmers, preservation of the environment, and consumer choice. USDA has become a rogue agency in its regulation of biotech crops and its decision to appease the few companies who seek to benefit from this technology comes despite increasing evidence that GE alfalfa will threaten the rights of American farmers and consumers, as well as damage the environment.
The Center for Food Safety will be suing on this decision.
In the coming months, we will be seeing USDA proposals to allow unrestricted plantings of GE sugar beets, and GE corn and soy crops designed to resist toxic pesticides, such as 2-4D and Dicamba, highly toxic pesticides that pose a serious threat to our health and the environment. To win these critical and difficult battles, the entire organic community, and our allies in the conventional food and farming community, will have to work together.
Now is the time to unite in action. We need to work together to restore sanity to our food system, stop the deregulation of GE crops and join together against the forces that are seeking to silence hundreds of thousands of Americans.”
What is your stance? Please take the time to write your senators and conressmen (& women), to stand up for this issue of utmost importance to us all.To find out how to contact them, here are the links:
