I have to laugh at this one, because, um, I do live in an RV. We have two rooms: The bedroom, and the living area that includes the kitchen. But, my favorite area in the whole trailer? My little sewing niche:

What? You were surprised by that?

Becky came to visit for FabGrandpa’s birthday weekend. We took her out to Valley Grocery for fried catfish and home fries!

They make the best fried catfish in Alabama there. Rob and Belinda, the other camphost couple, came too! I didn’t get a pic of them though.

I had given Belinda a gluten free King Arthur Chocolate Cake Mix and some Vanilla Buttercream Frosting, and she took them to the store so the nice ladies there could bake it up. We surprised FabGrandpa with his birthday cake after lunch. He didn’t get it until he realized I was eating the cake, too. Then he asked, how in the world did you do this? He was so surprised! Everyone, including Becky and the people who work at the store, were in on the surprise!

After lunch, we took Becky over to the Moundville Indian Mounds to take a look around. It was a gorgeous day!

The Black Warrior River runs along side the indian mounds location. It was way up due the heavy rains we had last week, but really was beautiful to see.

Yep, I was there, but still having a hard time getting around. It really sucks to not feel good. I DID put on a SPF 100 sunscreen on my face.

We really enjoyed Becky’s visit. She had to go home all too soon, though. And FabGrandpa loved having his little surprise birthday party.
Yes, it’s true. I am going to be a grandmother again. This time, Becca is the new mommy-to-be. She and Ken are expecting their first child in November. We are soooo happy and excited for them.

To celebrate the arrival of FabGrandbaby number six, I am going to make this cutie cute baby quilt:

The funny thing is, the day after she told me she was pregnant, I went to the store and saw this magazine, and just knew it would be the perfect quilt. When I saw her at Becky’s wedding and told her about it, she said she had bought the same magazine! Perfect!
When I woke up today, I was in some real pain. I thought the urinary tract infection I had last week had come back, or that I was having another kidney stone, but whatever it is, the pain was intense. I got up and took an alleve, which did nothing to alleviate the pain. I had a percocet leftover from when I had my last kidney stone, so I took that and laid down for a bit. That seemed to help some, but on a scale of 1-10, the pain was still at a “5”, so I called the doctor and made an appointment to go in.
We arrived at the doctor’s office for the appointment about 2:00 p.m, 15 minutes early for the appointment. The waiting room was about half full, mostly adults. But there was one mother there with a toddler. Now, I am not a miserly, mean old hag, but I was at the doctor’s office because I didn’t feel good. This child was allowed to run all over the waiting room, squealing and yelling as if they were outside in a playground. Every time it squealed, I had a surge of pain.
One time I looked at the child and said “Shhhhh!”. You’d think that mother would have taken the hint. That was my mistake. After I paid the least bit of attention to it, the baby came over and stood in front of me, wanting to play with me. That was when I told the mother that I didn’t feel good. She just picked the child up, walked back over to her seat, and put the child back down on the floor, for it to continue running and squealing. I looked at the mother, and she looked back at me, with that familiar look on her face that said, “Isn’t my child just soooo cute?” And I wanted to say, “NO. I don’t think your child is cute.”
The doctor said there was no sign of a urinary tract infection or kidney stone. No bacteria, no blood or protein in the urine. So, they gave me a shot of toradal in my hip, and scheduled an ultrasound for tomorrow, with instructions to go to the ER if the pain gets worse overnight. I am having SO much fun.
The birthday celebration I am writing about has not taken place yet. FabGrandpa’s birthday is Sunday–he will be 62. He is so excited about this particular birthday because he will be old enough to start drawing Social Security! I had planned on us going to Georgia and renting a conference room at the motel. I was going to send out invitations to all our friends and family for a “drop in” party for him, say from 2-5 or so, and just enjoy the day. But we have to do something else and that isn’t going to happen now.
We go out to eat twice a week to the little restaurant in the gas station a couple of miles away. I took a cake mix and some frosting to them, and they are going to make the cake, and surprise him with it on Sunday when we got for lunch. He has no idea this is going to happen, and I am so excited that he will get a party after all! I’ll post pics on Sunday night.

Whether I wear my prescription sunglasses or my regular prescription glasses, I use them every day. They are the first thing I put on in the morning and the last thing I take off at night. I have worn glasses since I was 13 years old, and probably SHOULD have worn them since I was 6. I still remember the day I got my first pair of glasses. I walked outside wearing them, and I could actually see the leaves on the trees. Before that, trees looked like a green blur in the summer sunshine.

Today I finally got the time to sit down and start on Judy’s T-Shirt Quilt. She had mailed me the fronts of about 25 T-Shirts for me to make into a king size quilt for her.

The first thing I did was cut each of the shirt fronts (and a couple of backs) into 14″ squares. The finished squares are going to be 12″, but I like to start off with things a little larger so I will have room to play. To do this, I folded each shirt in half, then in half again, like this:

Then, I used my square ruler to measure 7″ on each edge of the t-shirt. I used a Sharpie marker to draw a line using the ruler as a guide:

Cut on the lines:

A few of the T-shirts Judy wants in this quilt had a small image on the front or on the sleeve and then another image on the front. I cut these out and pinned them to the corresponding shirt to keep them together.

If you have a T-shirt with a large image, you can match the edges of the image by placing a pin in one side of the image, and matching the other side of the image to the pin to line them up:

Next, I ironed some stabilizer onto the back of each T-shirt piece. I used Pellon SK135 Sheer-Knit Specialty Apparel Fusible, following the directions that came with it.This gives the knit fabrics a more stable feel, and makes them easier to work with in putting the quilt together. DO NOT skip this step, or your quilt will not come out right.

Next time, we’ll cut the squares again, and attach any appliques to the larger pieces.
Back in 2003 FabGrandpa and I went to the mountains of North Georgia for a vacation. After we made our plans, we sent out an email to the kids inviting them all to come and join us there. My son, who was stationed in England at the time, flew over with his two children to join us.
Michael and Sarah were into Spongebob Squarepants back then, and could recite their favorite cartoons word for word. They kept us entertained with that.

We were staying at a cabin where there was a lake for fishing. Michael caught a stringer full of fish that was bigger than he was:

Sarah got a fishing lesson from Aunt Becca:

While Michael, his Dad, and FabGrandpa went out in the boat:

Later, we went to the Atlanta Zoo, where Michael got intimate with the Willie B Gorilla statue:

And Sarah posed as a giraffe:

We had such a good time visiting with Michael and Sarah! We don’t get to see them very often, so it is such a treat when we do.
