When my daughter, Becca, was in kindergarten, she refused to wear a dress unless she could wear that pin. It was a simple gold leaf, I think I got it from Avon. Even though it was way too “grown up” for a five year old, it was a necessary addition to her wardrobe whenever she was required to wear a dress. I still have that pin, and every time I see it, I think about this picture. Happy Birthday, Becca!

Awww. She's so cute. When our second son was 5, and in Kindergarten, he insisted on wearing his little sportcoat and tie to school. He's STILL a dresser – he loves looking good. And he's 25, now.

I love the photo and the memory Karen. If you have to wear a dress, why not dress it up. Happy Birthday Becca!

It is funny how little things can jog our memories. Happy Birthday Becc too.

I love that oh-so-solemn expression. This is a good lesson for all parents and grandparents. If you had put your foot down and refused to let her wear the pin, you would be short one wonderful memory. We need to let our children exercise their individuality as long as they don't do it in a hurtful way.
