Fabgrandpa and I spent a season working in Gettysburg, and we fell in love with Pennsylvania. The state is gorgeous, with rolling hills and farms with red barns. But most of all, there was the food. I don’t know about your grandma, but this grandma loves girlie shoes. These pretty pink Gola Quotas just make me feel so good to be wearing shoes! They are manufactured in the United Kingdom, so the sizes run a bit small for Americans, but they are comfortable on my feet.
Gola has been making shoes since 1909. They have made football shoes and during World War Ii they manufactured boots for the British Army. I just know I love their pink sneakers.

I was sent a package of Little Soya Soy Sauce to try. This soy sauce is gluten free and less sodium, and tastes pretty good. It is packaged in cute little “fish” individual packets that makes it really easy to take it with you wherever you go, and that makes eating gluten free a little bit easier. Little Soya is available for purchase online here.
Fabgrandpa and I love this stir fried chicken dish. I make it often, and there are never any leftovers. It used to be hard to find a good gluten free soy sauce, but now I use Little Soya, which is also MSG free.
To make this tasty dish, you’ll need:
2 boneless skinless chicken breast halves, cut into bite size pieces
1 head of garlic, cloves peeled and sliced
3-4 tablespoons of olive oil
1 lb of asparagus, cut into bite sized pieces
salt and pepper to taste
2 “fishes” of Little Soya Soy Sauce
2 cups of cooked rice
Heat the olive oil in a large skillet until hot. Add garlic, and sauté until browned a bit. Add chicken pieces, salt and pepper, and sauté until chicken is done. While you are cooking the garlic and chicken, steam the asparagus in the microwave for about 6 minutes, until tender. Drain the asparagus, and add to the skillet. Add the soy sauce, stir. Cover the skillet with a lid and turn the heat off, and let sit for 5 minutes before serving over rice with additional soy sauce as desired

When the guys delivered the chest of drawers the other day, Fabgrandpa asked them if they knew of a good plumber. And they did. They gave us Larry Cash’s name and phone number, and he showed up today ready to work on our plumbing problem.
We have known since last spring that we’d have to get a plumber to look at the pipes in the bathroom. There was no water pressure at all in the shower. It was just a dribble of water coming out even when the faucets were open all the way.Larry knew exactly what to do. The valves were stopped up, so he had to install new ones. And to get to the place where he needed to be to install them, he had to move the hot water heater.
The hot water heater was installed backwards, with the door to the heating elements facing the wall on the inside of the closet. The drain valve was also probably stopped up, because the water heater wouldn’t drain. This means we will more than likely be buying a new water heater in the near future. Sigh.
The good news is that when Larry left, we had water in the shower. And he only charged $234 for all that work. Next up is finding an electrician.

We actually found this dresser in a shop in Tallapoosa, Georgia last spring, but we didn’t buy it until this week. We went back to the same place just to look, and the dresser was still there. It was manufactured in 1929 at the Gettysburg Furniture Company. The sticker is still on the back of it.

We still need a dresser to go in the bedroom, but with this piece at least we have some drawers to put some of our clothing in for a while. We can wait for a while to get another one.
While it wasn’t so thrifty on the price, it is still reusing and recycling instead of buying new. And that to us is all part of being thrifty with resources.
