I first became with familiar with L’Occitane products when my daughter worked in their Norfolk, Virginia store several years ago. I have terribly dry skin in the winter, and it just gets worse the older I get. I absolutely love the way L’Occitane‘s hand cream makes my hands feel. Do you have a friend or someone you know who is in a bad love relationship? You know, that person who constantly calls you and wants to talk smack about their husband/boyfriend/wife/girlfriend? I have no idea why these people stay in a situation like that. Whenever I have had relationship problems, I have either talked to my spouse or boyfriend, whichever it was at the moment, or found a way to move out and move on. I mean, after all, that other person in your relationship is the only one who can fix it with you. If you talk to your significant other, and the problem can’t be fixed, it is time to walk away. Life is way too short to live it in an unhappy relationship that neither of you wants to work on in order to make it better.

I have had my fair share of friends who have wanted to tell me all about their woes, about how he doesn’t do this, or she does that. And I have to tell them I am not a marriage counselor, I can’t help them. What I have found over the years, that this is what happens, every time: you do get pulled into that sort of conversation. You agree with one thing or another that the person may say about their spouse.  When they get back together with the other person or make up, they take it out on you because you encouraged them to break up or whatever it was you said to them that was negative about the person they are in the relationship with. Best advice I can give, is, stay out of it. If they insist on reeling you in to their conversation, tell them to get marriage counseling or get other professional help. If they still insist, tell them that you love them, but you can not be a part of this conversation. Tell them the only person they need to talk to is their spouse. You will be a much happier person for it.

 

 

Sigh. The day after we bought our new car, Fabgrandpa and I were sitting in the living room watching TV. I started smelling smoke, that smell that you smell when there is an electrical fire. It was coming out of the heat vents! We turned the heat pump off, and the smell went away. Fabgrandpa went outside to check on the unit out there, and didn’t see anything wrong, so he came back in the house and started the heat pump again. There was that smell again.

We turned it off again, and scrounged up all the electric space heaters we had around the house, to use while we figured out what to do next. It didn’t help much that we were on the first day of a predicted cold snap where the temps would be down below 30 degrees every night for a week.

The next day, Fabgrandpa got on the phone, calling around to different companies who install heat pump systems. He found three companies in the tiny yellow pages for our county, and made appointments for all three of them to come out to give us estimates. We are now waiting for them to come out and tell us the bad news. This makes everything except the bathroom sink that has given us problems since we moved in. Maybe this will be the last of the money pit for a while.

Back when I was growing up in west Georgia, I was in love with Peter from Herman’s Hermits. I didn’t have any posters on the walls though, because I shared a bedroom with all of my siblings. If we all had just one poster, it would have covered up all of the walls in that one room!

The other day, I found the coolest website, called IDPoster.com. Of course, the first name I looked up was Herman’s Hermits, and of course they didn’t have any for them. It COULD be because I am so OLD or it could also be because this particular band was not very popular. But they DO have plenty of posters for Harrison Ford! He is my favorite all time actor, except of course for Robert Mitchum. And of course, there were no posters for Robert Mitchum, either.

Over the years of my adult life, I have needed an attorney for many reasons. While I have never needed a New Orleans bankruptcy attorney, I have looked for one in Georgia. We are looking at the possibility of filing bankruptcy in the next few months.

The first time I needed an attorney was when I got divorced for the first time. I was kind of young and dumb, and agreed to use the same attorney that my husband was using. Because my husband was the one paying for the services, he came out better in the divorce than I did. When I went to an attorney for my second divorce, I made sure I paid them myself, and that they were working for me. I never made that mistake again.

Next, my current husband, to whom I have been married for twenty years now, was involved in a horrible auto accident. He was in the hospital for 15 days, and had five broken ribs, a concussion, two ruptured discs in his neck, and a broken hip. He was not able to work for more than two years because of his injuries. We retained an attorney to file a lawsuit against the company that employed the man driving their company truck who hit my husband’s car. The attorney we had was very good at accident claims, and we were awarded a very good settlement from the company’s insurance company after about two and a half years.

Another time we hired an attorney was when my daughter was twenty one years old. My husband wanted to adopt her, because she really needed a Dad and he was always there for her. She wanted to be adopted by him, too. So, we hired a family law attorney to handle that job for us. She had to advertise the intention of my husband and daughter to get adopted to each other. At the end of the advertisement period, we had to go to court for an adoption hearing. While it took quite a while for the process to complete, the day we went to court was a very happy day for our family. We were very pleased with the job that the attorney did for us.

We have a couple more legal things coming up where we will have to hire an attorney. We have been asking around to our friends and family to find a good one to handle our business for us.

I know that stopped up toilets and overflowing septic tanks are not laughing matters, because whenever you need one of those rotor rooter guys to come out, it means you have a very serious problem. It usually means you have a stinking mess to be worried about too. Every once in a while, though, you hear a funny story involving Rotorooter.com. One of my friends, who shall remain nameless, had just recently gotten married. A couple of months later, the septic tank at their rental house overflowed. As my friend was standing there chatting with the septic tank man, she told him how she and her husband had only been married for two months, and moved into this particular house about a month ago. There was no problem with the septic tank until the day before, when it started overflowing into the neighbors yard. She told the guy she hoped he could figure out the problem and get it fixed so that this didn’t happen again.

My friend chatted with the workers the whole time as they got their equipment set up, and started digging up the yard. The guy dug up the septic tank, and opened the lid, and to my friends embarrassment, there on the top of the fluid in the septic tank were hundreds of condoms that had been flushed down the toilet! She said she made a most hasty retreat into the house and never came outside again while the service man was there!

Another story I have personally is that I used to have a picture of my ex-husband standing in the septic tank of our first house, shovel in hand. Our septic tank line had gotten stopped up with roots, and instead of calling a pro, he insisted on doing it himself. That picture is the only one of him that I saved after we divorced!
