September 11, 2001. Fabgrandpa and I had gone camping. I know we live in a travel trailer, but back then, when we were working in a campground and living on the property, we wanted to escape on our days off. We had a tent, sleeping bags, and all the camping supplies we needed to go camping away from the RV. Because we lived on the campground where we worked, if we didn’t leave on our days off, we didn’t really get a day off.

So, we had taken our tent and other camping supplies and headed out to a Georgia State Park in the North Georgia mountains. We had enjoyed our “weekend” by sleeping late, cooking out, trout fishing, and site-seeing for three days.

When we packed up camp and headed home, we stopped in a diner for breakfast. The staff at the diner had a small television on, and everyone was watching it. We had no idea what had happened. When our waitress told us about the attack on New York, I suddenly wasn’t hungry anymore. We sat and watched the news coverage coming out of New York, and just couldn’t believe our ears and eyes.

It was just so unbelievable that something such as this could happen in the United States. The video of the plane hitting the second tower; of both the towers collapsing; of people running away from the ash storm was like a horror movie played on a loop over and over. And the stories and stories and stories of the people who had been lost still breaks my heart to think about.

Where were you on this day eleven years ago?

When you work in a remote area, any occasion is an excuse for a party with friends. And since we were having company for the weekend, I planned one. Our good friends Charlie and Lynda are on their way from Washington state to south Texas for a winter job, and Richard was on his way home to Michigan from his seasonal job at Sequoia Kings Canyon NP. They all just happened to be dropping by to visit on the same weekend.

We had a wonderful time, and many of our co-workers dropped by as they got off work. We cooked chicken and pork on the grill, and I made potato salad and baked beans. Everyone brought something to share, and we shared the last of my tequila!

 

I have seen a lot of “photo a day” memes going around, where you are asked to take a photo a day every day for a month. That seems to me to be a LOT of work, especially when I have gone back to work on my job. Being asked to do a photo a day every day is just asking for failure. So, my counter to that is One Photo A Week. I’ll give you a prompt each Tuesday for the next week. You’ll have an entire week to either take a photo that matches the prompt, or find one in your photo archives. So, this week, I am starting out with something really simple. Show me your front door, the front of the house (or trailer, or motor home, or apartment, or condo or tent) that you live in. Everyone has one, nearby, easy to find. Here is mine:

The prompt for next week is SKY. Just take a photo of the sky from your yard. Easy.

A few weeks ago I was asked to review the Wearever Incontinence Underwear. I was a little put off by that request, but then I decided that it WAS something that women of all ages need to know about. So, I agreed to go ahead with the review. I received the panties last week, and they really ARE nice panties.

When I was in my 40’s, I had a problem with incontinence. I had birthed large babies, from 8 lbs. 4 oz to 10 lbs. 8 oz.  Because of that, I developed a problem where when I sneezed or laughed, I couldn’t control my urine. I had surgery when I was 46 to correct it and have not had a problem with incontinence since then. But, it would have been nice to have known about these panties way back then.

I decided to put these panties to the test, to see if they really would hold the amount of liquid the company said they would. The panties I received were the light absorbency ones, so they should hold 4 ounces of liquid, or half a cup. Please note, after I finished editing the following video, I realized that I referred to the panties holding 1/4 cup of liquid a couple of times. I should have said 1/2 cup.

I would like to add here, that even though these panties are marketed towards people with incontinence, since I had the opportunity to see them in person, I think they would also be great for someone who has a heavy menstrual cycle. I used to have a heavy flow, and often had “accidents”  and wound up with very embarrassing spots on the back of my clothing. If I had some of these innovative panties back then, it sure would have helped prevent that.
