Isn’t it amazing how making a small change can have big results? When we did our kitchen remodel in 2014, we left a space of about 16 inches between the stove and the refrigerator. That small space seemed to me like a huge waste of kitchen real estate. I often thought that I needed a little cabinet there, but I could never find what I was looking for.
One day in late 2016, I was talking to my friend, Carol, who is a cabinet maker. Her talent and skill in this male dominated field is just amazing. She posts pictures of her work installed in clients’ homes on Facebook. She makes peoples’ kitchen, bathroom, laundry room, and family room dreams come true as far as cabinetry is concerned on a regular basis. I am in awe of her because she is the same age as me, and still builds and installs cabinets.
During our conversation, I asked Carol if she would make me a little cabinet to fit in that space. She asked me several questions about how I would be using the cabinet, and had me measure the space. The result was a 15 inch wide cabinet, with one drawer, and a door. Behind the door was a vertical divider so that I can store sheet pans there.
Before this cabinet was installed, I stored my sheet pans on top of the stove. I really didn’t like the look of that but I had nowhere else to put them. Now that they are in this little cabinet, they are out of sight until I need to use them.
Here is a look at my kitchen now that this little cabinet is in the space between the stove and refrigerator. I’m planning to use some glass tiles on top of the cabinet, and behind the stove for a back splash. It may be another year before I do that, but at least I do have a plan.
What do you think of my new little cabinet?

That is really nice. I have a space like this between the stove and counter, and it is stuffed with paper and plastic bags, sure looks awful. I want to check this out!!! Wow!

I love the look of your entire kitchen, a perfect place for everything it seems. If it takes a year for ‘your plan’ to come together there’s nothing wrong with that! It looks great as it is.

I think it looks great! I’m sure you’ll like it for the extra storage space and work space.

Well done–you for thinking of it, and your talented friend Carol for making it. I love it. Actually, I love everything about your kitchen–I’d be very comfortable cooking there. 🙂

It’s rewarding when you able to make cute transformations which take just a little time!
