I received product from Hamilton Beach as compensation for this post.
I have not had a stand mixer since we sold our house in 2000. For one thing, there was no place to store one in our RV, and a stand mixer weighs a lot. You have to be choosy with small appliances if you live in a very small home. So, I chose to only have a hand held mixer. I got a really cheap one to have just in case I wanted to make a cake or other tasty treat. The first time I used it to mix up some gluten free bread, though, it burned up. Literally. There was smoke coming out the back of it. When I went shopping to replace it, I bought a Hamilton Beach Hand Held. The Hamilton Beach mixer can handle everything I have attempted to bake since then.
When Hamilton Beach offered to send me both a stand mixer AND one of their new hand held ones, I was so happy! Even though I already had a version of the hand held, I was really missing having a stand mixer.
The first thing I made using my Hamilton Beach Stand Mixer was a Coconut Cake for Easter. It turned out beautifully, and I credit Hamilton Beach for that. I used the stand mixer to mix up the cake, and the hand held one to make the old fashioned Seven Minute Frosting.
Although the packaging and instruction manual does not say that the metal bowl that comes with the stand mixer can be used as a stand in for a double boiler, it did the job for me. I put a couple of inches of water in a boiler, and put the metal bowl on top, then used the hand held mixer to beat the Seven Minute Frosting while it was being heated by the steam from below.
Everything I have made using these mixers has come out great! Well, except for that chocolate pie that I added too much liquid to. It never set up, and looked terrible, but it tasted good and we ate it anyway.
