My son, Seth, started his own blog this weekend. Check it out. I know you will. Because he is a great guy. And cute, too!

Finally Applied For My Passport
FabGrandpa and I have been talking about getting our passports for a couple of years, but never got around to doing it until today. We went down to Kanab, Utah to the county clerks office to get the applications. With applications in hand, we walked over to Linda Lou’s Coffee Shop to get a cup of coffee and fill them out. Since it was such a beautiful day, we decided to sit outside. While we were sitting there, our neighbors George and Nancy walked up, so they joined us at our little table.
We have not had much opportunity to just sit down and talk with them before today. While we were talking, we discovered that they live in San Diego, (when they are not volunteering at the Grand Canyon) and that George taught school in National City. Why that surprised us is because FabGrandpa grew up in Imperial Beach and went to Mar Vista High School, not far from where George taught school.
When we finished filling out the applications, which were actually pretty simple, we walked back over to the county clerks office. The information needed to fill out the form included the names, dates of birth, and place of birth of our parents; the name, address and telephone number of an emergency contact; and our own names, dates of birth and places of birth. We also had to supply certified copies of our birth certificates, a picture ID, and two 2 inch by 2 inch pictures of each of us.
The clerk went over the application to make sure it had been filled out completely, then attached the pictures and birth certificates to the applications. We gave her two checks, one made out to the county and one made out to the Department of State. The total amount per passport card is $45. We should receive our new passport cards in the mail in about two months. Yay! now we can go to Mexico this winter.
Seth had surgery for sleep apnea last Friday, and has not been feeling good. He loves the movie Napoleon Dynamite, so we got him a “Vote For Pedro” T-shirt. That should cheer him up! When I talked to him tonight, he told me that he is feeling a little better, and that he can already tell the difference. He can breathe a lot better and is getting rested from his sleep. He had this condition for a very long time, if not his whole life, so we are glad the surgery is working for him.
Fab Grandma Times 4
I am proud to announce that I am going to be a Fab Grandma again. My son and his lovely new wife, Seth and Sarah, are expecting a new baby probably in September. We are all so excited about this good news. Michael, the big brother, said to me “I told my parents I want to help with the baby when it gets here.” I told him it would be his job to teach his new brother or sister what not to do so he or she won’t get into trouble. He liked that. I have started a crocheted afghan for the cute little him or her. When I was in the store buying the yarn, it looked pale lavender, but at home it looks more pink. Oh well, so much for trying to remain neutral! He will just have to deal with it.
I also have started a baby quilt for the new little person. All I have accomplished on that so far is to sketch it out and decide that I want to make it in yellows and purples. It will be in the pinwheels pattern, with a striped border. I am planning to go to Douglasville next weekend and Emily and I can go to the fabric store and pick out some fabrics to go with the ones I already have. So far, I have some yellow that was used in Aunt Becky’s quilt (which I have not finished yet but plan to this summer) and Spencer’s big boy quilt; some yellow scraps that were left over from a dress I made for my granddaughter Sarah when she was little; some purple from Becca’s quilt (also not finished yet but I promise it will be this year!); and two purples left over from Sarah’s big girl quilt that I made for her sixth birthday. So, as you can see, this project already has some family history. I am eager to begin working on this but I can’t start cutting the fabric until I have all of it, so it will have to wait another week or so. But I can show you the sketch of it, hope you like it.
Last night while I was trying to draw this out, I was having a hard time doing it because the squares are on point. So, I drew them all out in a large square, colored them, cut them out, then taped them all back together in the pattern I wanted them to be in. Now, the reason I have to do all that is because I don’t have a pattern for this quilt to go by, and I cannot visualize it unless I am looking at it. Now that I have my drawing, all I have to do is count the squares so I will know how many to cut of each one. Sometimes even if I have a pattern I do this because I can’t imagine the pattern in MY colors when I look at it in the pattern makers colors. It helps me to see the squares in the quilt in the colors I am using.
But FabGrandpa was sitting across the table from me laughing at me. He couldn’t believe I would cut up all those little pieces of paper just to tape them all back together again. “Well,” I said, “isn’t that what you do when you make a quilt? Don’t you cut up pieces of fabric just to sew them back together again?” Men! They just don’t get it.
Seth and Sarah Got Married
[ad#Home Page Above Posts]
My son, Seth and his girlfriend, Sarah, got married on Friday, October 20 in England. My grandson, Michael was there at the ceremony, too. They have been planning this for some time. They had several of their friends there with them. They want to have another wedding cermony next year on the beach so all of our family can be there to celebrate with them.
I have not met Sarah yet, but she does seem to be an intelligent, loving woman. She is a good match for Seth, and is very good to my grandson. Michael likes her a lot and told me he was excited to have her as his new mother. They will be coming to the states in January to live in Maryland near Andrews Air Force Base, where Seth will be stationed next.
We are so happy he is coming home, he has been gone to England for six years. Michael has grown up there. Although he has been in England since he was four years old, he does not have a British accent at all, but he does speak with some very British sounding phrases. One day when I was talking to him on the phone I told him I had a crab cake sandwich for breakfast. He asked me if that was something like fish and chips!
