Back in 2008, my grandson Spencer got a new dog. Her name was Sophie, and she was a yellow lab mix. She was such a sweet dog, and smart too. Spencer loved her so much! Somehow, in May of 2010, Sophie got out of the house, and out of the fenced yard, and ran away.

Emily said she saw a dog that looked a lot like her that had been run over on I-20 a few weeks later, but was not able to stop and check it out. She has never given up hoping that Sopie was still alive. Spencer was very upset, but like it is with children, he soon got over her loss, and got a new dog, Blondie, another yellow lab mix. He was still talking about Sophie even this summer.

Today, over three years later, Haralson County Animal Control called to let Emily know that they have found Sophie! She had a microchip implanted in her neck that held all the contact information for her owner. She said Spencer is giddy with excitement over getting his Sophie back.

If you own a dog, and don’t have one of these microchips implanted, make an appointment with your vet to get it done. I am truly amazed that Sophie has made it back home because she had one.

I do have to make a couple of corrections. /i always thought she found a new home and Spencer never gave up on her and was still talking a bout her this Summer. 🙂

Wow! That is amazing! I’m so happy for him. My dog has a microchip. I hope we never need to use it, but it’s there just in case.

That’s a wonderful story!! We have always had a beloved pets microchipped. Earlier this year we lost our ‘Kume’ due to age-related illness. We miss him so much!!! But we still have our little ‘Boo’.
