Yesterday when we arrived at the hospital, Emily was sitting up in a chair. The nurse told us that Physical Therapy had been in and helped her get up, walk two steps to the chair, and sit down. She looked really good. The swelling in her right eye had gone down enough so that she had both eyes open.
Her doctor came in right after we got there, and answered some of our questions. He also asked Emily several questions, which she answered correctly. He said they are going to be doing some more tests on Monday to try to determine why this happened.
She  was fussing with her hair, so I tried to get it out of her face and off of her neck. She told me her husband had tried to comb it the other night but it didn’t work. I told her I will bring a brush and pony tail holder when I come back tomorrow.
Of course, I was talking to her constantly, asking questions she could answer yes or no or with just a few words. After about an hour, I asked her if she wanted me to shut up. She said “No, I like you being here.” I don’t know about you, but those six words made my heart swell up and my eyes leak.  She also kept grabbing my hand, holding it, patting it, squeezing it, like she used to do when she a very little girl. Just knowing she wants me there  makes all the effort it takes for me to get there worthwhile.
As we were getting ready to leave, she told me “Don’t forget brush tomorrow”. She remembered our conversation from earlier, which is a very good thing.

Even though she’s not my daughter, my eyes are tearing up that she wants you there. You are a good mom! And don’t forget the brush. 🙂
Glad to hear that she’s doing some better. And of course she wants you there, you are her mother. I know anytime that I have been seriously sick I always wanted my mom close.
I hope she continues to improve.
awwww, this is awesome…it made my eye’s leak too…please tell her I’m still praying for her and give her a hug for me <3
I second what Alison said…You are a good mom! so glad to hear that she is getting better!
I am SO glad she is doing better. Reading your stories of you taking care of her make me really miss my mom. She is so lucky to have you – there is nobody you want more than your mom at a time like this.
I hope she will continue to improve quickly. I know your being there has lots to do with her progress thus far 🙂
I am so glad to hear that she just keeps getting better and better. You are a wonderful mama and I know she loves that you are there for her.
I am so glad to read about these improvements! Please remember to take it easy on yourself, too.
Yes, my eyes are leaking too!
I look forward to an update every day.
Has she been able to see Parker?!
And bless Tommy’s heart for trying to brush her out. 🙂
I’m so sorry that this happened to your daughter, but it’s great to hear that she’s getting better and improving with each passing day. It also made my heart smile when you mentioned how she liked having you there. I’m sure you will cherish those little words forever.
I’m continuing to send hugs and prayers your way and for Emily too.

These are continuous good news! I’m sending you all the courage and strength in the world! You’re a great mom, I would also wish to have my mom with me if anything happened!
Continued prayers to your family.
You made my eyes leak too! It’s so wonderful to hear that Emily is improving!
Her improvement is wonderful news! I hadn’t visited your blog for a while, so am just catching up on what’s been happening. Sending prayers and healing vibes her way, for sure!! Remember to take care of yourself, too, while you’re going through this. It can really wear you down, and she needs you to be healthy to be there for her. 🙂
Thinking of Emily and your whole family!
I am just catching up on the news of that beautiful baby and your sweet Emily. I know this is a traumatic time for your family. Emily’s improvement seems remarkable this far. I am so touched be her relationship with you. I had a different, but traumatic birth with my third child. That landed me in the ICU for days and a recovery afterwards. At one point my mother was helping me care for myself and I realized that only a mother could help with such details. I know Emily loves having you near.
