As we get older and our lives change, the way we dress tends to change right along with us. We have grown up, raised children, and had great careers. We know who we are and we are confident in ourselves. This is something that should definitely be reflected in the way we dress, but many older women simply don’t know how to dress as they get older, and this problem is never more evident than with accessories. We don’t know anything about accessorizing when you’re over 50. If you’ve recently hit 50, or beyond, and you’re looking for some tips to help you accessorize every outfit to perfection, here are a few things you should know:

Follow the rules your way
The great thing about getting older is that you are no longer a slave to the latest fashions and you can wear whatever you want whenever you want. Of course, that doesn’t mean you won’t want to embrace some of the latest accessory trends, and doing so can definitely give you a more youthful appearance, but do it your own way. For example, if the trend for velvet chokers is one you love, but you don’t want to draw attention to your neck, try wearing a velvet pendant instead. It will connect enough with the trend to add some cool to your outfit, while flattering your older body even better.
Take your wardrobe into account
You might love that antique brooch but will it go with your floaty dresses? If you want to get accessorizing right, you need to consider your outfits before you buy. For example, if you wear a lot of neutral fashions, then investing in bright bold fashion jewelry will provide contrast and add some interest to your outfit, whereas if you wear a lot of bold prints, simple silver jewelry may work better and add a touch of class.
Don’t overdo it
When you are younger, you can often get away with throwing the whole contents of a small jewelry store at your outfit because young people are expected to experiment with style and make unusual choices. As you get older, you will tend to look more well-turned out if you choose your accessories more judiciously. Less is almost always more. So, if you’re wearing a pretty pink scarf, then match your bag and shoes, but go low-key on the jewelry, or if you’re wearing statement dangly earrings, don’t bother with a necklace. Have little flashes, but don’t load yourself up with every accessory known to man!
Be bold when accessorizing when you’re over 50
The most vital piece of advice I can give you when accessorizing as an older woman is to be brave and be bold. If you see a beautiful fuchsia pink scarf, do not be afraid to wear it; if you love the youngsters’ trend for wearing two belts, and you think you can pull it off, go for it because, after all, confidence is the best accessory any woman can wear.
Now, whether you’re wearing a little black dress or a comfy trouser suit, you can ensure that your accessories do their job and help you to look your best!
