Trying to move but some weird roadblocks keep arising? The modern way of moving is fraught with hatches and trapdoors. We think it’s going to be simple and easy: “we’ll get it done in a couple of days” we tell ourselves. Yet, it turns out that moving house is a big deal. It always has been when you look at history. In Victorian times, you needed to move house by horse and cart, or by steam train. Everybody’s things hung in the balance. They could get lost or stolen on the way to the new home, which could take days or weeks to reach. Although the transport time is shorter, there are new challenges we don’t always recognize.
There’s always one
No matter how hard you may try, the chances of leaving at least one thing behind are quite high. This percentage is exacerbated when you are rushing the job of packing and loading. We highly recommend that you do not plan to move in a day or even a weekend. You should seek to move slowly and cautiously. Take 3 or 4 days if you need them. Take time off work for this to happen. This way there is a lot less likely a chance that you will leave behind a coat, a pair of shoes, or an electronic device.
A cut or sprain
Moving is no joke. Why do you think professionals are trained in this sort of thing? You are trying to move very heavy pieces of furniture. Things like the sofa, cabinet, drawers, dining tables, desks and bookcases are extremely heavy, especially when going downstairs. It’s very likely that during your move, you will experience a cut or a sprain. So always have a first aid on hand that you can reach and fix yourself up using.
What about Rover?
When you have pets, it makes moving a whole lot worse. For one thing, your car will probably be packed with things and you yourself are gearing up for an 8-hour drive to get to your new home and hopefully, not get lost on the way there. So using services for transporting pets is highly recommended. For one thing, they will be calmer, safer and a lot less cramped. But also, it’s far cheaper than most other types of pet moving services if you use a shipping service designed for this. Various services that transport pets bid for your job and you can check out their user rating to know which one is more trustworthy.
The right words
Every industry has its own jargon. Jargon in the moving industry is no exception. ‘Crafting’ for example is when you build up boxes to protect a fragile item. A ‘delivery report’ is a document that the movers will fill out before they load up and then when they have unloaded. This shows you which items were taken and which have been successfully delivered. A ‘tarp’ will be a huge thick sheet, which covers furniture and other decor pieces.
Moving is not simple and nor is it always easy. But with some of these tips, you should be in a better position to move house with relatively little fuss.
