Everyone knows that the best thing that you can do in life to remain happy and healthy is to stay active. Exercise may not be your favorite thing to do right now, but the key is to find an exercise you really enjoy doing. Once you have an activity you like, you won’t be able to stay away from it and you have far more fun! These six activities that you can enjoy after sixty will just get you started.

The issues usually stem as we get older. The aches and pains that take over the body begin and it makes it harder to enjoy those exercises we once loved. The pain can – in some cases – prevent you from moving as easily as you would like, and that can keep you from being as active as you would normally be. Thankfully, there is more than one way to move and while you don’t need to match up to NBA champions, you can still get moving over sixty and have some fun with it. You should always do as much as your body allows you to do and not push too hard, and check with your doctor before you engage in any exercise plans.

So, let’s check out six exciting activities that you can enjoy after sixty to keep yourself feeling young and sprightly!

Yoga

It’s not all sun worshipping and twisty positions, but yoga is an ancient practice that was developed to teach you how to center yourself and improve your physical and mental health. Not only will yoga improve your posture, you’ll find that it relieves the symptoms of anxiety and lower your blood pressure at the same time. Yoga can help you to sleep better, increase your flexibility and it’s a great way to meet new people, too. If you are in any pain, you may find that it’s eased by regular yoga sessions as your muscles become warmer. You can practice yoga in a class, at home, even sitting on a chair if you find getting to the floor too difficult. It doesn’t take too long to get into the swing of things with yoga, and it can feel very refreshing every time you finish a session.

Rowing

Whether you get out on the water or you use a rowing machine in the gym, rowing can give you a new lease on life. It’s great for your health, it stretches the muscles well and it’s a good way to give your body a workout. You can do this exercise at the gym, outside on water, or even at home with a set of weights. Rowing offers you the chance to improve your balance, build bone mass and strengthens the major muscles in your body. The best thing is that you can do it for free with canned food as weights if you’re on a budget, and you can still benefit this way as if you were in the gym. Rowing is one of the activities that you can enjoy after sixty.

Swimming

Whether you are covering lengths in the pool or you’re heading out to join in with water aerobics, being in the water is good for the body. Not only will you find better support for your joints, you’ll be able to move even when you are usually limited. Water is an excellent support, and you will find it easier to maneuver your body in water than you would outside of it. There are several conditions that pop up in later life that often make exercise a struggle, but swimming can help. You can strengthen your muscles and enjoy water sports you wouldn’t usually enjoy this way!

Cycling

Resistance exercise like cycling gives you more than you could imagine! Cycling gets you into nature and in fresh air, and it also gives you the chance to strengthen your bones and improve your posture. It’s great cardio that will give you the chance to feel great on the inside and outside.

Walking is a great activity that you can enjoy after sixty

The best thing that you can do for your health is to make sure that you get your steps in every day. Walking will improve the health of your heart while also giving you the chance to boost your mood. You can feel more serene, peaceful and uplifted when you get your heart rate up. You can do it wherever you want, from sandy beaches to country lanes, and you can do it in groups or alone. Walking can be a very social experience if you allow it to be!

Golf

Do you really need an excuse to get out onto the green and play golf? It’s a popular sport for both women and men, and the walking you will do while you play is an exciting form of low-impact exercise. You’ll improve flexibility and feel great while you score points against your friends!
