Slower metabolisms, fine lines and wrinkles, and unexplainable aches and pains is anything but exciting to look forward to. These changes, along with the many others that come with aging, can do a number on our self-confidence. That’s why taking steps to maintain, improve, and rebuild our self-esteem throughout the years is crucial for a healthy, happy aging process. So whether you’re fresh out of college, a menopausal mother, or a senior citizen, here is what you need to know about rebuilding self-confidence with age:

LOVE THE SKIN YOU’RE IN

Although your body replaces your skin cells at large every seven to ten years, it’s always important to spend your days loving the skin you’re in. To do that, however, isn’t necessarily as easy as it seems. From rigorously following a skincare routine to treating your complexion with the right products, all the while trying to understand the subtle changes in its appearance,  can make it hard to show your skin the love and attention it requires.

In spite of these challenges, it’s essential to schedule in some TLC time with your skin every day. Treat it with care by staying consistent with your skincare regimen and the application of certain products as this will serve to improve any unique skin concerns you may have as well as preserve your youthful glow now and in the future.

Pro tip: To prevent your skin from undergoing the natural effects of aging, try using a wrinkle-fighting retinoid cream in your daily skincare routine. Retinoids work to increase collagen production and improve skin texture, making it easy to reduce the appearance of aged skin. Additionally, always make sure to protect your skin from the sun by wearing sunscreen and other SPF products daily. Not only will this help you from enduring signs of premature aging, but it will also impede the risk of developing other serious health-related issues.

KEEP YOUR BODY MOVING

By now, you’ve probably experienced first-hand the benefits of staying active. Aside from the not-so secretive role it has in maintaining your weight and keeping your body in shape,  exercise and physical movement also play a fundamental role in your cognitive function. To be specific, when you engage in physical activity, your body gets stimulated to release brain chemicals that can leave you feeling happier and less anxious.

Between the ways exercise enhances both the brain and the body, it’s hard to ignore how valuable it is to our health, self-confidence, and overall quality of life. That said, be sure to keep your body moving throughout the week! Even if only a few days here and there, this will surely be a way to not only look good, but feel good over time!

Pro tip: Avoid engaging in physical activities that you don’t really enjoy as this will only make it harder for you to want to get your body moving. A big misconception about exercising is that it can only be done correctly with expensive workout equipment and pricey gym memberships, which isn’t the case at all! There are plenty of simple approaches you can take to get your heart rate up and your blood pumping. Basic activities like walking, biking, and swimming can be equally as effective in improving your health and rebuilding your self-confidence!

BE FINANCIALLY SMART

Financially stable means different things for everyone and like most good things in life, achieving this takes time. For this reason, it’s better to get on top of your spending habits now and start thinking about your life later on. No matter what your definition of “financial stability” is, you know just how influential this economic goal can be in every other part of your life. Sadly, not everyone is able to achieve this sense of security and as a result, their self-confidence becomes negatively affected.

Because of this, being financially smart is crucial for rebuilding your self-confidence as you age. Even if money management isn’t your area of expertise, there are plenty of trustworthy people out there who can help! To learn about your current financial situation and how they can improve, consider seeking advice from a financial advisor.

Pro tip: Depending on what bank you belong to, you may be entitled to certain benefits, special deals, and other unique services that can help you be smart with your money and ultimately, reach your long-term financial goals. Automatic saving transfer services, for example, are just one small way to save money from month to month, without even trying!
