Remodel For A Fresh Look

When a homeowner decides to remodel, they will discover that there is a lot of things to do and be aware of. However, before most problems are known, the homeowner usually has an idea of what rooms they want to remodel and what budget they want to stick to.

People remodel for many reasons. The decor could be too outdated for that particular household, especially if they are looking to sell. Another reason to remodel is to make it more useful and to give it another purpose. Maybe the layout of that particular room is prohibitive to the activities that homeowner wants to do. A homeowner may want to add the charming look of a barn door with bypass barn door hardware. This is a very trendy option.

Lower Level

The most popular room to remodel is, by far, the kitchen. The reason for this is that there are so many things available to change. You can change the cabinets and sinks, but also the layout of the kitchen can be changed. Islands are popular as an add-on to kitchens because they add more space for both counter top space and for storage. Remodeling the kitchen also provides a reason for buying new appliances.

The next favorite area is the living room, family room, or whatever you name the room that gets the most traffic from the family. Entertainment centers, changing the flooring, and changing the lighting, are very popular changes made when remodeling this room.

Upper Level

Obviously this does not apply to homes that have only one story, but here we can discuss the rooms that are usually seated in the second story of the house. Usually, these rooms would be bathrooms and bedrooms. People like to remodel the bathroom because they want it to look modern just like the kitchen. For example, a single man might just want to build a shower as opposed to the tub that his house had before. An older couple would want to add a walk-in tub.

While bedrooms are not as complex of a job as bathrooms, the same reasons for remodeling will apply. Most of the time, all you really need to do is add a fresh coat of paint and some new carpet to the bedrooms to make them different. That doesn’t mean that you may not want to add some complex new things such as built-in bunk beds or murphy beds for your children and guests. Remodeling the bathrooms and bedrooms is all about enhancing comfort at the end of the day.

Basement

As we were discussing before, most houses consist of one or two stories. Not to be overlooked is the basement. It is, more often than not, a prime target of remodeling because many basements are never finished to begin with. The default beginning of most basements is to be unfinished with a space to keep boxes and storage. However, the possibilities are many when wanting to remodel a basement. You can add all of the things from the previous floors and include other things.

Many basements will start out as an empty room with cement flooring and a few windows. The person remodeling wants to change this into what looks like a complete part of the house. This is the kind of area where the remodeler’s imagination can flourish because there is nothing but space to build upon. People might not build a kitchen the likes of the one on their first floor, but they will build a smaller kitchen, or a wet bar.

There is also the possibility of adding entertainment rooms, such as media centers, pool rooms, theaters, and some will even put basketball courts in their basements if they have the necessary room. Multiple bedrooms and bathrooms can also be added to the basement.

Landscaping

When most people remodel, they will pay attention to the outside of the house just as much as the inside because the outside often will sell a house just as well. Landscaping is more than adding grass and flowers. Most people, when they wish to remodel their outside space, will add gazebos, decks, and fire pits. The main focus of adding to the outside is to improve the curb appeal of a house. The other purpose is to create a comfortable outside space for the homeowner.
