From big cities to vast beaches, the U.S. has an incredibly diverse array of destinations one can travel to. That makes it quite difficult to determine which locations are the best. It often comes down to individual taste.
Nevertheless, we have developed a list of four interesting locations you should make time to see at some point during your travels across America this year. Some of these are already on well-worn tourist circuits while others may be places you don’t hear about as often.
1. Ocean City, MD
Looking for a romantic getaway, memorable wedding, family vacation, a weekend of golf or fishing, or miles of enchanting beach? You can find these and more in Ocean City, Maryland. Sitting on the Eastern Shore, this resort destination attracts millions of visitors each year.
It’s home to many of the region’s best hotels and restaurants including Princess Bayside, Dunes Manor and Clarion Resort Fontainebleau. Ocean City is also a popular launch pad for day trips to Worcester County’s old world towns and Wallops Island Flight Facility.
2. Asheville, NC
Asheville is a vibrant, welcoming city with a long reputation as a healing resort, art colony and home to well-known statesmen and luminaries. It’s a special place whose uniqueness will linger in your mind and memories long after you leave.
While many American cities have experienced major overhauls in their urban core, Asheville’s historic downtown has remained well preserved. The architecture is a neat blend of Neoclassical, Beaux Arts and Art Deco. This provides a fitting backdrop to the infectious energy that effortlessly oozes from the art galleries, edgy restaurants and fun entertainment spots.
3. Orange County, CA
South of Los Angeles is Orange County CA (also known as the OC) but the two neighbors are a study in contrasts. LA is celebrity central while the OC is the surfer’s paradise. LA is urban and OC suburban. LA is a haven for liberal thought whereas OC has a colorful history of ultra-conservatives and evangelicals.
Anaheim’s Disneyland Resort is the star attraction in the northern part of the county. The OC’s beautiful beaches stretch across its 40 miles of sea-front. Each beach has a unique vibe and personality to it. Huntington Beach is a magnet for surfers from all over the country.
4. Adirondacks, NY
The Adirondacks in upstate New York are the ideal getaway for persons in love with outdoorsy vacations. There are numerous snowboarding and skiing opportunities at Whiteface Mountain during the winter. In the warmer months, Saranac Lake is an excellent boating and hiking destination.
Sports enthusiasts should factor Lake Placid’s Olympic attractions in their itinerary including the Olympic Museum, Sports Complex and Jumping Complex. History fans can look forward to Fort Ticonderoga and John Brown Farm State Historic Site. Learn about the region’s wildlife by going to The Wild Center.
Overwhelmed by the likely travel costs to these locations and wondering how you can ever afford it? There’s no denying that travel costs money. Yet, careful planning can take each dollar you plan to spend further than you had imagined. Start saving early and look for discount opportunities you could take advantage of.
If you find that you still do not have sufficient resources to realize your dream trip, consider using crowdfunding sites such as Plumfund, GoFundMe and IndieGogo. You’ll be amazed by how much friends, family and even complete strangers would be willing to chip in.
