Coming Clean About Laundry Organization
If laundry rooms are where clothes are cleaned, then it seems odd that it would also be one of the most poorly organized and cramped areas in the home. You might dump your clothes in the middle of the floor near the washer, or you might spread clothes over the dryer while they air dry. Before washing another load of laundry, take out some time to look into better laundry room organization with laundry sorters, stain charts, laundry bags, and other laundry room supplies.
Sort it It
Laundry sortersare a must for any well-organized laundry room. Detergent, fabric softener, irons, stain fighters, linens, and several other common laundry room finds can easily be stored and organized.
You can also buy a laundry sorter that has a drying rack. You’ll most definitely want to look into getting a drying rack if you have a lot of cotton button-down shirts since they have a tendency to shrink if they aren’t removed from the dryer while they’re still a little damp.
Un-stain It
You might also want to think about having a handy stain chart in your laundry room so that you know exactly how to take care of grease, grass, red wine, lipstick, ink, and mud stains. Shooting in the dark when it comes to handling of stains can sometimes do more harm than good, and that’s especially true if there are several articles of clothing in the washer that can potentially become stained.
Having a few small baskets in your laundry room is a great storage option for all of the supplies you’ll need to treat those stains so you don’t have to go through the house hunting for them when you do stain your clothes.
Small Spaces
If your laundry room is especially cramped, you could look into getting a stackable washer and dryer in order to maximize your space. You can also install a pull-out self between the washer and dryer so that you’ll have a place to fold your clothes without taking up too much space. Another good idea for small laundry rooms inside of homes is to hang a matchstick shade over your laundry area so that you can hide the room away when you’re expecting company.
Bag It
If you have a lot of clothing items that have to be dry cleaned, you can buy a couple of laundry bags with handles on them so that you can easily transport them to the dry cleaners. This is also a good way to separate your regular wash clothes from clothes that have to be dry cleaned. It’s also a great idea to add tags to the bags that you use for dry cleaning so that you can write down your contact information on them.
Laundry Cart
Laundry carts are a great option for small laundry rooms. You’ll have plenty of room for all of your laundry supplies, and you’ll have a flat surface for ironing. Make sure you get a cart with wheels so that you can easily move it around if need be.
Clean up your act and organize your laundry room with sorters, laundry carts, baskets, and drying bars.
