Four Reasons To Choose Aluminum For Staircases And Railings

Why Aluminum is a Building Material of Choice

It is easy to see why many people turn to wrought iron for staircases and railings in their homes. Iron is strong, durable, and tends to look quite beautiful. These same features can also be achieved through aluminum materials. Aluminum tubes and balusters have a great look, and can help support a railing that does its job just as well as its wrought iron brother. In fact, there are several reasons why aluminum is a building material of choice, including its simple installation, how easy it is on the wallet, how long it lasts, and its low maintenance requirement.

Simple Installation

With a few instructions by your side and the right materials, you might be surprised to learn that you can install decorative aluminum balusters, handrails, bars, posts, and flanges on your own. Aluminum is pretty simple to work with, and you can get a lot of your project questions answered from the company you buy your materials from or by looking online. If you are somewhat handy around your home, you should be able to handle a little aluminum railing installation with few problems.

Easy on the Wallet

While it might seem like some railing materials are quite expensive, aluminum is actually quite affordable. Given that it has many of the same properties as other railing materials, you might even be able to save a lot of money on your project by simply switching to aluminum. If you are trying to complete your home improvement project on a tight budget, you might see how much you can save by going with aluminum.

Long-Lasting

Some people might think aluminum is great, but lasts for only a short period of time. Aluminum railing can actually be quite long-lasting. It holds up really well indoors and can hold its own against all kinds of weather outdoors. It is also pretty simple to keep looking brand new, and it tends to resist denting and bending fairly well. It may slowly oxidize over time, but a little bit of maintenance can help take that look away.

Requires Little Maintenance

Inspection of an aluminum railing or fence is usually needed once or maybe twice a year. Once a year is for general railing and fencing in and out of the home. If you live in a wetter climate or have fencing and railing installed near a pool, then you should inspect the aluminum at the same time you inspect your pool (every six months). Some mild detergent and warm water applied with a soft cloth can easily clean aluminum, and even a little bit of wax can help take away the oxidized look.

Although you have several choices when it comes to selecting building materials, aluminum is one choice that you should not overlook. Materials like aluminum tubes and balusters are easy to install, affordable, last a long time, and require little maintenance. They also look great inside a home or outdoors. You will probably want to use quality materials for the various home improvement projects you might take on. There are a lot of quality materials that can make beautiful railings and fences for your home. Just remember that aluminum is one of those quality material options.
