I Was Dreaming Of A New Kitchen

I want to remodel this old kitchen so bad!
I want to remodel this old kitchen so bad!

When we bought our house in 2011, I knew that there would be a long long wait to remodel the kitchen. It is livable, and usable as it is, but oh! How I dream to make it pretty as well.

We have not been able to do anything to it yet, except for ripping out the old non-working electric cooktop and covering the hole it left behind with a piece of contact paper covered plywood. While that sounds icky, it is really not that bad of a fix. It looks like a marble cutting board if you squint your eyes just right.

The kitchen really doesn’t look that bad, but it could use some fixing up. If money was no object, and I could do anything I wanted to to make my kitchen look and function better, the first thing I would do would be to remove the dishwasher and replace it with a cabinet with slide out drawers. We only use the dishwasher now to store pots and pans anyway, and a good functional slide out drawer would work much better for us for that purpose.

After moving the clothes dryer to the back porch, the next thing I would do would be to install a built in gas range. It would be one with a built in grill. I like the stove I have now, but I would really prefer a built in instead of a free standing one. As soon as I got a built in range, I would have a kitchen exhaust fan with a pretty range hood installed over it. We don’t have an exhaust fan at all in the kitchen right now, and you would not believe how much just cooking breakfast with sausage can stink up the house! So, yes, an exhaust fan would definitely be on the list of needed kitchen appliances.

I think the third thing I would get as far as kitchen appliances would be a tossup between a smaller microwave oven or a garbage disposal. The microwave oven we have right now works fine, but we did not think it was as big as it is when we were in the store buying it last year. We don’t have a garbage disposal unit at all now, but when I lived at places that had one I used it all the time.

And, I would definitely get new counter tops installed. I think the kitchen would look 25 years newer if it had new counter tops. The ones in there now are cracked, stained, and were not installed properly in the beginning. What do you think of my wish list for my kitchen? If you were remodeling your kitchen, what would be on your list?

I shared my kitchen dreams, and now I’m entered to win a custom KitchenAid mixer! Find out how you can enter too at PartSelect !!

I like those ideas. We remodeled our kitchen once. It was totally gutted. I will probably never do it again! I hate remodeling! I would however like to have those things that go inside the cabinets that roll in and out and keep the pots and pans and stuff nice and neat. We don’t have any if those. It would make things much easier!

Slide out drawers are to die for. I had them in one of my homes and have never found them again. I miss them as I have a physical disability that prevents me from reaching, etc. I have been through a few kitchen remodels in the past and have learned so much from each one. If you are looking also for aesthetics, you can have the cabinets refinished or refaced to save money.
