Fabgrandpa and I have used the same insurance company for more than 13 years. We thought they were giving us a good deal because they lowered the price a couple of bucks a year for being good drivers. Because of that, and because I absolutely hate talking to insurance people on the phone, I have never checked into getting a cheaper rate. Until today.
When the mailman came and brought us a letter from the credit union that was introducing an auto insurance company that gives discounts to credit union members, I decided it was the day to call them. Before I did, I dug out my current policy so that when I talked to someone I would be certain that I was comparing apples to apples. To my surprise, this company was able to save me $60 a month on the insurance for the Impala and the Jayco Travel Trailer. That is a whopping $720 a year saved by just one thirty minuted telephone call.
After we were finished talking about the auto insurance, the sales person asked me who we used for our homeowner’s insurance. I went and dug out that policy while he waited on the phone. When all was said and done, he had saved us another $301 a year on our homeowner’s policy, with the exact same coverage as we had with the old company. AND, the old company made us pay a “membership” fee of $25 a year, which we won’t have to pay now.
All in all, I saved us $1046 today just by spending about forty five minutes on the phone. What are you waiting for? When was the last time you shopped your insurance coverage?
