I feel terrible as a mother that I was not able to go on Wednesday, but I was in so much pain myself that I couldn’t get out of bed. So, I rested my own body so that I can continue to do what I can for her.
When we went to the hospital yesterday, they had removed the gauze bandage that was covering her head, so the incision was visible. It is shaped roughly like the stitching on a baseball, and has so many staples in it that it looks like a zipper on her head. Her left eye was extremely swollen from the surgery. The place on her left side where she hit her head when she passed out had gone down some, but was still bruised and slightly swollen, as well as her left eye.
While I was there, the physical therapist came in to assess her. She responded very well to his commands. She did open her left eye when he asked her to, and she looked at me, but I don’t know if she recognized me or not. After the PT left, I asked her if she was tired, she nodded her head “Yes”, yawned, and went back to sleep.
She definitely looks like someone who has had brain surgery, but she looked a whole lot better than she did that first day. He color in her face is back to normal, and she doesn’t look like she is in any pain at all. She is not on any sedation or pain medication at all, because they want to know if she has any pain in her head.
It’s going to be a long road to recovery, but she will have us there with her every step of the way. It may not be in person, but in spirit and in love, we will be there.

Still keeping her in my prayers. I am glad to hear you got to visit and you feel like she is improving how she looks. I am sure she was happy her mom was there for her!

Thank you for the updates. At AHS, we are all praying VERY hard, and checking frequently. I think I myself check every few hours.
Emily is one of the strongest women I have ever met in my life. No matter what is affecting her, she pulls through with a big smile on her face. She has been a rock for me, especially in the past few months. I know, personally, I want to return the favor and be here for her.
Please, please contact me if there is anything I can do even if it’s something as simple as bringing a pack of diapers to whoever is keeping Parker.
