We knew when we bought our house that some of the windows needed replacing. It was no secret that some are just rotted out. Two windows in the bedroom that have wooden frames are just waiting for a strong wind to come along to blow them out, sort like the Big Bad Wolf in the story of the Three Little Pigs.
We would like to eventually replace all of the wooden framed windows in the entire house. The ones we put on the back porch last fall and the one in the kitchen window are fine. Of course, the ones on the back porch are brand new. I’m not sure how old the one in the kitchen is, but it looks fairly new to me.
The only problem with getting replacement windows, though, is deciding on which style to get. The house looks like a cabin from the outside, but that doesn’t mean I have to go with something plain and simple. I love the casement style windows that crank open. I don’t know if they still have double pane windows or not, but I am thinking that would be the way to go to increase energy efficiency. At any rate, new windows would certainly bring our heating and cooling costs down because they would eleminate the drafts we have right now.
I still have a while to think about it, though, as we are still saving up the money it will take to get it done. A girl can dream though, right?
