Provella

I was asked to try Provella, a probiotic product designed for women to promote digestive, feminine, and immune health. If you are a loyal reader, then you know I was hospitalized for 34 days back in May/June and had extensive intestinal surgery. I was on long term treatments with two powerful antibiotics. As a result of the medication and surgery, my entire system was out of whack.I felt like I needed a probiotic to restore balance to my digestive tract.

I’ve been taking Provella daily for about three weeks now, and I do feel like it has helped. I don’t have that “icky” feeling that antibiotics can leave yo with. I also feel like the entire system is working more like normal.

If you are not familiar with probiotics, they are live microorganisms (in most cases, bacteria)
taken for health benefits. The effects of probiotic products vary by the type of microorganism in the product.
From the Provella brochure:

In the human body, there are multitudes of microorganisms—including bacteria—in places such as the gut and mouth. When you think of bacteria, you probably think of disease. However, many bacteria help the body work properly. For example, “good” bacteria aid in the digestion of food and the absorption of certain nutrients. Most probiotics contain good bacteria similar to those found naturally in the human body. In women, the good bacteria, or flora, can be easily disrupted, which is why probiotics can be helpful in supporting a healthy balance.

Provella is unique in several ways. First, it is designd specifically for women. In addition, also from the Provella brochure:

ProvellaTM is a probiotic designed especially for women to supplement their natural, native flora. ProvellaTM contains a proprietary blend of 6 bacterial strains chosen specifically for
maximum benefit to women.* The strains are: It has been estimated that as few as 20%-40% of certain probiotic bacteria survive passage through the gut. A major threat to probiotic bacteria is stomach acid. However,ProvellaTM is formulated using a patented controlled-release technology that helps protect probiotics from harsh stomach acid
and is designed to ensure that live organisms reach the intestines, where they can begin working. ProvellaTM tablets are taken once daily by mouth and may be taken with or without food. Supplemental good bacteria may not stay in the system long so, to get the full probiotic benefits, it is important to take Provella every day.

Are there different types for younger women of child bearing years and older women over 55? I would think we would all need different strains.
