In the ongoing Blog Carnival hosted by Trisha of Momdot, this weeks instructions were to go through your closet and show the 5 worst fashion blunders that you own. I have to confess, that I wear three out of five of these regularly. There is one piece of clothing in my closet, though, that I never wear, but just can not bring myself to get rid of.

I was a Girl Scout Leader for 8 years, from 1983until 1991. I got this patch jacket the first year. I have patches from every place our Girl Scout Troop went during that time.

I have added pins and buttons to it since then, souvenirs of the places I have traveled. The dang thing clicks when I walk if I ever wear it, which is every once in a while to just try it on.

This jacket represents so many memories that even though it is 29 years old, I can not toss it out. I will probably still have it when I go to my grave.

Next up is a beaded vest that I have owned since about 1985. It is one of the things I wear sometimes and just can’t bring myself to get rid of. It might look tacky to some, but it is me. Yeah, I claimed it.

I wear this with a pair of black slacks and brown sweater. It looks decent, but yeah, it’s 1985.

I bought this purple rhinestone studded vest in March when I went to a quilt show with my sister-in-law. It may not be so fashionable, but hey, it has RHINESTONES, and I LOVE me some rhinestones.

And in case you can’t see them, here is a close up:

Next up, the skort. I wear it, well at least I did pre-surgery. It doesn’t feel comfortable now, but I’m keeping it until it does.

And last, this awful tie dyed shirt from Wal-Mart. What was I thinking?

And here is the whole outfit, modeled for you:

So, what are you hiding in your closet?
I didn’t think anybody still owned a skort.
My closet is full of things I don’t wear but can’t seem to part with.
I’m with Gaelyn…there are things I have hanging in my closet that I have a hard time getting rid of. Like the skort!
I like your Girl Scout top – I wouldn’t wear it, but it’s an awesome keepsake!
Some things are hard to part with, even if one cannot wear them much anymore! I have found it hard to find things to buy, not being, ahem, a size 10 or something!! I often tell hubby here where we live now, that they must not think fat folks deserve clothes!! (Event tho’ I see many who wear a larger size than I do…and I wonder WHERE do they find clothes?) I can sew…so I should sew more…trying to loose some pounds to get my diabetes acting better however, so that will wait awhile. Do you sew any clothing for yourself, or just stick to quilting? (I have also found it much harder the last decade or so, to find good quality cotton materials which is what I prefer to wear. Fortunately, I still have quite a stash around).
Boy, does this ring a bell with me. As I am getting ready to go full timing and downsizing my closet there are things in there that I never wore, still have tags on them even. I know most of them will NEVER be worn ‘on the road’. What to do? What to do? Some are even sizes that I will never see again. 🙂
Great post! I’m glad to know I’m not the only one with some bad choices in my closet. But by no means get rid of the Girl Scout shirt!
In my closet I have a heavily beaded Christmas vest that we bought for my MIL probably 20 years ago. She believed there was no such thing as too much bling, and she loved that vest. I wear it once each Christmas in memory of her. (You can get away with a lot at Christmas.)
The only way you’re allowed to get rid of the Patch Jacket is to send it t me for safe keeping. It will go right in the closet next to Ken’s Eagle Scout stuff.
I used to have a skort and I loved it. I would still have it if a newborn hadn’t pooped on it (not mine). Your Girl Scout jacket makes the best fashion statement of all. Please never get rid of it. What precious memories (I was a Gold Award recipient and I LOVE the Girl Scouts!!)
Karen, my sweet, you are a “What Not To Wear” episode waiting to happen with those cloths lol Just kidding. I think the tye dye is actually kinda cute.
I love that you did this – you are so fearless and I admire it so much!
karen, you so win on this thread.
How awesome! I have a tie dye shirt just like that sitting in my dresser which I have never worn. It looked good in the store…
The patch jacket is amazing, there is no way you could get rid of that, even if you can’t wear it.
My Seester,
First off…I would keep the jacket too…it has WAY to many wonderful memories of a fun time in your life and the life of your girls. The vest with the beads….LOVE, I believe you wore that to Mama’s 80th surprise birthday party. I like the tye dye shirt from Walmart and I LOVE the purple vest with the rhinestones. I’m not too hip on skorts, but hey, that’s just me. I don’t see ANYTHING wrong with the way you dress 🙂
