Back To Work

I went back to work on August 15th, and I have to say, it has kicked my hiney! I come home from work every day worn out. The first two week did go by rather quickly so that is a good thing. The hardest part of the job at this point is getting in and out of the little pickup truck to do rounds at the campground. I have to do them in the morning when I work the early shift, and in the evening when I work the late shift. This means putting out little signs that say “RESERVED” on them on each of the sites that is reserved but the guest has not arrived yet. In the morning, you have to go and retrieve the signs, and note whether or not the guest arrived during the night. On most days, there are about ten or 12 late arrivals to check on.

Me in my uniform on my first day back to work

The rounds also involve a visual check of the campground sites to make sure all the guests are complying with the campground rules. Things such as not leaving a fire unattended, having dogs on a leash, not parking on the grass, etc. If I observe any of these things, I have to get out of the truck and speak to the guests, or leave a form telling them to correct whatever rule they are breaking. That’s a lot of getting in and out of that truck. By the time I get home, I’m pooped. I hope that it gets better as time goes on.

I know it’s gotta be hard getting back to work! But it sounds like you have a great start on it. Just be careful and don’t get overtired!
