You Would Think I Would Be Used To This By Now

Ever since we bought this RV six years ago, I have been picking my clothes up off the closet floor every night when we travel. The first trailer we owned had the closet in the middle, and it was tiny, so we never had this problem. This one though, has a huge wardrobe closet across the entire rear end of it. So, when we travel, it always looks like this:

What a mess!

I have tried everything I can think of to organize my closet better so that I won’t have the avalanche of pants and shirts. I tried using packing tape to strap them down but they just came down in one hunk rather than one at a time. Then, I tried using a belt to attach the clothes on hangers to the rod. That only caused the whole rod to bend and fall down. Next, I tried folding all my shirts neatly and stacking them on the floor. The end result of that was my pajamas, which never fell down before,  fell on top of the neatly arranged shirts. Sigh!

The only RV closet I have ever seen that looked like it wouldn’t have this problem was one that a friend of ours customized with lots of drawers and bins built in, like closet organizers. I would love to have something like that in my trailer!

okay. . .I’m sure you’ve heard this before. . .but I read putting the hangers on the rod backwards helps. . .which would drive me nuts. . .but so would the clothes falling in the floor. . .wow. . .what to do. . .what to do?

not sure if you are having the whole hanger fall or just the clothes falling off the hanger…if you can use wire hangers, just bend the hook to where it won’t come off the bar but will still move from side to side. if you prefer plastic hangers, “stay put hangers” are made for campers but they are kinda pricey. if it is just the clothes falling off the hangers I can only suggest using clothes pins.

I haven’t even opened the closet. Now I’m afraid to. But I did have a full bottle of salsa fall over with lid off in fridge. That was a mess. Just put it all on the floor until you get to the NR because you know the Painted Desert drive will.

I’m with Janice — hang your clothes with the open end point towards the front, not the back.

You might try wrapping the rod with that bumpy rubberized shelf liner. See if that would hold the hangers.
My closet has so much jammed into it nothing could fall if it wanted to.

I can’t quite understand why your hangers fall off. Are the roads out west that bumpy? Our closets (2) are on the front end where the tongue is located. Maybe it’s more sturdy on that end? You did say your closet was across the read end of the trailer, right? We’ve had kitchen drawers come out, sliding door come off the hinge and items in cupboards shift every which way……….but never a problem with the closets. I would try the wire hangers and bend them over the rod. Good luck!
