When I came home from Washington, D.C. recently, there was a bouquet of flowers sitting on the kitchen counter for me. Fabgrandpa had missed me so much that he wanted to make sure I knew he was happy to see me. I’m glad I took a picture of them, because I go back and look at it almost every day. That simple gesture of him buying me flowers still makes me feel happy!
I’ve been thinking back to all the times when I have received bouquets, and honestly? there aren’t many times in my life when someone has sent me flowers. I know I must have had some flowers at my first wedding, but there are no pictures of that day. When I married Fabgrandpa, I carried a bouquet of daisies. And some time during our first year together he gave me a dozen red roses. If I am going to get flowers, though, I would much rather that they be ones I can plant in the yard than a bunch of cut one.
While I am not someone who receives many flowers, I am more likely to send flowers to others for special occasions. In the past I have sent Interflora flowers to my mother and my mother-in-law for Mother’s Day, their birthdays, Thanksgiving, and Christmas. Whether it is a mixed bouquet of cut flowers, a bunch of tulips or daffodils, or a living house plant, I know that they love getting flowers. I just hope they enjoy theirs as much as I have enjoyed the last bunch that Fabgrandpa gave me.
