I have no idea why the thought of turning 60 this year is bothering me so much. No other age has affected me this way. I think about how it was back when I was a young girl and had a pretty decent figure. Then I think about how I have gained weight every year and can’t seem to get it off no matter what I do. I know I didn’t just wake up one day and there it was, and every day that I wake up and see it I feel worse about it. I just can’t get motivated to do anything about it.
Back in 2002 when we lived in McAllen, I met several older ladies who had had liposuction in Texas. They said it made them feel so much better about themselves and how they looked but I don’t think that any kind of cosmetic surgery is for me. A couple of the women I knew who had that done said they would do it again, though.
I just realized today that we only have six weeks before we go back to work, and I am worried that my pants aren’t going to fit. I want to lose at least ten pounds before we go back, but I really don’t know where to start. I also want to start walking more, but the plantar fasiciitis makes it difficult to do that. I really need a good pair of shoes that will offer the support I need so my feet don’t hurt. Does anyone out there have any suggestions on a brand of shoes that I can get? Do you have a diet or diet website you use that helps you stay on track for losing weight?
I think you are beautiful just the way you are. But having uniform pants that fit is important. I have two sizes. Good luck.
Please read the book “Wheat Belly” – it will change your life! And, NO, I’m not paid to recommend this, but it really is an excellent book. There is also a “Wheat Belly” FB page with helpful, supportive people. The bottom line is to eliminate ALL wheat/grains/sugar, and to lose weight, also count total carbs you consume (aim for under about 50gm/day) but eat as much healthy protein, fat, veggies, eggs as you need, plus some nuts and seeds.
It really does help with weight, diabetes, digestive issues, and overall energy level – and for many people, even more issues….check out the FB page.
Good luck! I have lurked around for a couple of years now, but am not much of a commenter. I love seeing your sewing & craft projects!
Ive been using sparkpeople.com and I’ve lost 10 pounds since I started. I’m not great at sticking to a diet, but the nice thing about spark people is that you earn “points” for logging in your food and your exercise minutes, which for some reason is really motivating to me even if they aren’t “real”. Also, I joined a one month challenge that involves doing at least 10 minutes of cardio 5 days per week and one video per day from their website, which are all around 10 minutes long. Some of them were harder than I expected, but when it’s less than 10 minutes, I can persevere. “You can do anything for just one more minute” is what I tell myself.
As for shoes, I don’t have a particular brand to suggest because they all fit so differently. I would say to invest in a reputable brand, try on several different pairs…if you go to a store that specializes in running and walking shoes, they usually have someone who will help you find a good pair. More importantly, a good insert can make almost any pair of shoes 100% better. It’s amazing what a difference it can make.
Girl, I feel your pain! At 63 I am trying my darnest to lose a few pounds….I could lose 50 now, but 10 at the time is good! The ONLY thing that has ever worked for me is Weight Watchers. You can eat anything as long as you keep track and the online program is great, too. I do WW online and also go to meetings wherever we are located; everywhere from West Texas to South Florida! I am actually a Lifetime member from 30 years ago. When I follow the plan, I lose. Eating out TOO MUCH is my downfall. Plus it’s fun to go to different meetings even if only for a couple of months at the same place. I have to be accountable to someone or something and I don’t want to see a gain written down in my little book! LOL!
Let me know what you decide and how it goes!
Also, I have a 3 Wheel bike that works great for bad knees (or feet, too, probably). The Dr. said it was low impact and I can go for 2+ miles on the bike but can’t walk down the block with my knees.
