Bi-Focals For Amelia

Amelia in August of last year

Miss Amelia, my youngest granddaughter, started wearing glasses before she was a year old. She has lazy eye, or Amblyopia. I was surprised that she would keep the glasses on, but her Mummy, Sarah, says that it only took about two days for her to get used to wearing them, and now asks for them when she wakes up in the morning.

Amelia had an eye appointment yesterday, and was prescribed bi-focals! I had never heard of children wearing bi-focals, but apparently it is quite common.  She will get her new glasses, and if they don’t help her amblyopia in two months, she will have to have eye surgery.  I hope they help.

Running in Jan 2012, but without her glasses.

My nephew was a couple years old when he first got glasses. He would hide them in strange places to keep from wearing them. Eventually he realized they helped and would call them his “see”. That’s when he wanted to wear them to sleep so he could see his dreams better.

What a precious little girl. I hope and pray the bi-focals help and she doesn’t need surgery. I’ve never heard of this in a child. Greetings from Jo (Kenya)

She looks so cute in her glasses. I know she’ll hate them when she gets older, but….aww!

What a cutie! I hope she can avoid surgery, but if not–be thankful that we live in the age of modern medicine.
