Can You Type?

I applied for a job that asked the question on the application, “How many words per minute do you type?” I thought I could type about 30 words per minute, which is the minimum required for being qualified for that job.

So, after I sent in my application, I started having doubts about my actual typing ability. I mean, I had jobs in the past where I was required to type a certain number of words per minute, but not in recent years. And for all the writing I do now, for blog posts, emails, freelance articles, etc., I just type and don’t worry about errors because of good old spellcheck. Get it typed, run spellcheck, all is good. Right? Unless you have typed “ass” instead of “add”. Spellcheck won’t find the error and you’ll look like an add. hahahah.

Just to ease my mind that I had not fibbed on my application, I googled for an online typing test, And guess what? I did 50 words per minute! Yay!

So, tell me how well you did.

I did 62 with 98% accuracy on the 3 minute test. I think I used to be faster, but that’s when I made a living typing.

Well…this is like bragging, but I do type for a living. I did 102 wpm with 95% accuracy. And I used to be a lot faster. I always wondered, with that speed, why can’t I play the piano.

Whoa! Candy, that is terrific! I hope you don’t apply for the same job as I did.

Okay, I read your blog and did the test. I came out with 91 wpm and 97% accuracy. That is the first timed test I had taken in over 40 years – not bad!

    HI Karen!

I know what you mean about typing. I can type pretty fast, but sometimes I invert words or type add instead of ass lol too.

    Hi Karen,
Followed a link from MagnetoBoldToo’s blog. (Love your beads btw).
I got 48 wpm and 100% accuracy … I never learnt to type and am much faster when downloading straight from my brain (which is lucky ’cause that’s what they pay me for).

65 wpm and 100% accuracy! I’ve slowed down A LOT, however, in my “old age”!~!!!

I am not going to take the test. I did take typing back in high school for one term only. I am sure that I cannot go faster than 30 wpm. Suffice it to say that I did not type for a living.

Not sure how many words I can type but the kids and I recently received a typewriter from Freecycle and LOVE it. When the kids friends are over, they just want to play on the typerwriter. Isn’t that funny? Forget the laptop and XBOX….typerwriters are fun!

I haven’t taken a typing test since I was in high school, 52 years ago. Not about to do it now. LOL I can type pretty fast If I’m doing it right from my brain but not as good if I’m having to read it and then type it.
