I am in love with the 5 & Diner Cafe. We happened to find this place when we went to get my ultrasound done. The atmosphere is all 50’s, with the waitresses wearing bobby socks and ponytails and poodle skirts. And of course there is a neat counter there, why else would I love it? This day we didn’t sit there so all I could do was stare at it lovingly across the room.
One consolation of sitting in a booth, though, was the cute old time juke boxes on all the tables. Of course the didn’t work, but you COULD flip through all the old song titles and reminisce about the good old days..
The breakfast wasn’t bad either. Yeah, I order my eggs over medium, then mash them up with a fork. FabGrandpa had a patty melt, which looked and smelled divine.
The prices aren’t that bad–comparable to what we would pay at Cracker Barrel or Denny’s, plus they had a frequent diner card that let’s you get your 5th meal at half price, and your 10th one free. too bad we’re leaving town tomorrow.

I know you don’t know me but I’ve been reading your blog for quite some time. I do the same thing with my eggs and ALWAYS get weird comments!! I’ve never known anybody else that does this.

I would love to go somewhere like that 🙂

Looks yummy! Well, not the egg. I can’t eat my egg with anything coming out of it – weird, I know. I bet they have great strawberry shakes!

I love places like this.
And I eat my eggs the same way. Nothin’ weird about it. 🙂

There used to be a diner in my neighborhood that I got to go to when I was little. I can remember spinning on the stools. I would have tomato soup and a root beer float.

Karen,
Thanks for the tip. We will be making day trips to Phoenix (to visit cousins)in Feb. from Casa Grande (for the Gypsy Journal Rally) and will definitely look this place up. We LOVE diner food!
Phil puts his medium eggs on top of his hashbrowns and mixes them up together. It gagged me for 20 years until I tried it … now guess how I eat my eggs :)!
Safe travels! I hope it is warm where you’re going.

Oh, I’m glad you liked it! We have a 5 and Diner in driving distance from us that is relatively new. I haven’t been inside yet but now I will know what to expect! We used to have those little individual juke boxes at the Papa Gino’s pizza place where I grew up and they used to really work. Ah, memories. 🙂

I used to go to a diner in New jersey with my dad and get English muffins “grilled not toasted” Not sure why but I still prefer them that way.

The 5 and Diner sounds like a terrific place — just my kind of place!

That looks like a cool place – great photo of the counter, too!
