Ask Florida locals and they’ll agree–lots of over 55’s move to Florida. There are plenty of good reasons that retirees choose to relocate there when they finish their working lives. The great weather
Sure, it has its fair share of scary tornadoes, but the Sunshine State is the perfect place for all sorts of people from singles and young families, those who love outdoor sports, and retirees. That’s for good reason. White sandy beaches can be enjoyed for an average of 230 days of sunshine in subtropical climates. Anybody would be mad not to enjoy that!
Retirees are often called ‘snowbirds’ when they fly to Florida to live out their winters in warmer climates since the winters there tend to be mild for those who want to escape cold weather. Warmer weather means that retirees are able to do plenty of outdoor activities that they may not have been able to enjoy if they had previously lived in a colder place. A guarantee of being able to spend time enjoying the sun is a good enough reason to retire to Florida.
It’s a tax haven for retired people
Who likes paying high taxes if they had a choice? Not many people, that’s for sure. That’s another reason why Florida is such a great choice for people to retire to– its low taxes! In Florida, there is no state income tax, no tax on retirement income, or on social security benefits! That alongside the low rate on property taxes means that Florida is very attractive to those retirees who don’t have a huge amount squirreled away in retirement can still live reasonably well without having to worry about huge tax bills. Florida is a great place for retirees to place their investments. They can save money on taxes throughout their retirement due to Florida’s beneficial tax policies in their favor!
This means that the retired folk of Florida get the pleasure of spending their hard-earned cash on the things they enjoy–pursuing new hobbies and socializing!
Florida is known for great healthcare
As people get -ahem- older, they want to make sure that if they were to get sick that they will be taken great care of and on the road to recovery quickly. Florida is known for its great healthcare for seniors–which is great since so many people retire there, they can rest assured knowing that their physical needs are being taken care of with lots of medical institutions available that tend to specialize in health concerns that are typically associated with older folk.
