Back in the early 2000’s, Fabgrandpa and I spent a couple of years living and working at an RV resort in Deep South Texas. We were only eight miles from Mexico. We could go across the border for lunch, and did often do that. I went to Mexico many times for dental work, and whenever our bar needed to be stocked, of course we headed for the border to replenish our Tequila, Bourbon, and Rum with the cheap alcoholic beverages we could purchase just eight miles away.

Now that it is Spring, I have been itching to take a vacation to somewhere sunny and sandy. The Mexican Caribbean Coast on the Yucatan Peninsula just looks so beautiful. I have only ever been to Mexico in the interior, to small cities near the border such as Progresso, Reynosa, and Tijuana. Cancun is on the coast, and is popular vacation spot. It is relatively easy to get there, and flights inexpensive. I long to feel my feet in the sand, and the ocean breeze on my face, while I sip a Margarita or a Sangria and munch on chips and guacamole.
There are so many choices of places to stay for Cancun holidays, that it is hard to decide which one to choose. The Hard Rock Hotel Cancun is right on a beach, and just 10 minutes’ cab ride from the Coco Bongo and The City nightclubs. This is a lively place to stay all year round, but particularly during Spring Break. At the Hard Rck Hotel, you can star in a music video or cut your own Avicii-style dance track, before ordering room service from your Jacuzzi®. Since I am not as young as I used to be, and can’t carry a tune in a bucket, I think the Moon Palace Golf & Spa Resort would be a much better choice for me. Can you imagine a resort with seven swimming pools, a golf course, and 123 acres of gardens, all situated on a white sand beach? Now that is what I would call a great place to stay.

If I could get to Cancun, I would take a half day fishing trip to see if I could catch a tuna, or a barracuda. Even a grouper would be fun to catch. You’ll be fishing in small groups of 6 to 8 people and a licensed captain, mate and tour guide will be on hand to help get you started. All the gear you need is on board and drinks and snacks are included. They’ll even take pictures of you with your prize catch. You can book a morning fishing trip that’s available as a 4 or a 6-hour excursion.

The last thing on my list that would make a dream vacation a reality would be to swim with the dolphins. The Silver Dolphin Swim Program would let me spend a full hour with the dolphins, and I could become a real trainer for the day. How neat is that? There are several different options you can choose from. I know I probably wouldn’t be physically able to do this, but a girl can dream, right?
Where is your dream spring break location? What activities would you include to make your vacation the best you have ever experienced?
