This post is brought to you by Glutino Gluten Free

Now that summer is here, we are all ready to hit the road. Whether it is to the beach, to the mountains, or to Grandma’s house, getting there is so much better when you know you are going to have some gluten free snacks on hand for when the hunger pangs start.

It doesn’t matter if you are a toddler, a teen, a Mom on the go, or a Fabgrandma like me, if you get hungry you want something to eat RIGHT NOW. In the beginning, when I first started eating a gluten free diet, it was hard to walk into a convenience store looking for a snack or into a restaurant looking for a meal. Well, it still is, but now I have some ammunition in my arsenal to help fight back hunger, gluten freely.

There are more and more restaurants that offer a modified gluten free menu. While the choices are not that great, they are still options. Two of my all time favorite restaurants offer almost everything on the menu in a gluten free version. Those are Pizazzo’s Italian Kitchen in several cities in Arizona (OH! How I wish they would come to Atlanta!) and Mellow Mushroom, with several locations around Atlanta.

And if you go into a restaurant and there is no gluten free menu, there are still some choices in most places. For instance, if there is nothing else on the menu, I can get a Chef Salad, hold the croutons and cheese. Boiled eggs and grits makes a filling meal until you can get where you’re going. I have also been known to order “a la carte” tomato slices, bacon, and a fruit cup. Sometimes getting creative with what is already on the menu is your weapon against hunger. I often order a hamburger with no bun, or a hamburger steak with a side of sliced tomatoes or vegetable of the day. Use your creativity and think outside the menu. I have found that most places will cook something I request, even if it is not specifically on the menu, but from looking at the menu I can see that all the parts are there.

Finally, while traveling, stock your car with lots of snacks that are totally gluten free. Apples, bananas, and grapes are good choices. So are any of the products from Glutino. Muffins made from the Gluten Free Muffin Mix travel well, and are so easy to make. Put together some peanut butter and banana sandwiches on Glutino Gluten Free Cinnamon Raison Bread or egg salad sandwiches on Glutino Gluten Free White Bread before you leave home. There are also Gluten Free Pretzel Sticks, Double Chocolate Chip Cookies, Animal Graham Crackers, Vanilla Creme Cookies, and more! Take a look at all the Glutino Gluten Free goodness at their website!
What is your “go to” gluten free snack for taking on the road?

Yum! Kabobs and cookies… you are totally speaking my language! I want to travel with you!
I need to check out some of these Glutino gluten free foods. The cinnamon raisin bread would be great!
Okay, those Ka bobs look AMAZING! I want one (or four) of them! My kids really like to eat bananas! They are always eating them 🙂
Those Ka Bobs look delicious and the perfect camping meal to enjoy. Thanks for sharing your gluten free snack idea with us too.
Wow, it’s great that there are gluten free snacks for on the go. I have to try those!
I saw a Mellow Mushroom by my sister’s house not long ago – might have to stop in there! I guess I don’t have a favorite GF snack because I don’t pay much attention to gluten. Those cookies look like a great snack, though!
I can’t believe I have been gluten free for five years and have not yet tried Glutino! I must correct this right away 🙂
I think it’s fantastic that there are so many gluten-free options out there now. Those sound like a really great snacks to bring along with you On a road trip 🙂
These look like a great gluten free snack and you are so smart to have options with you. You just never know when you’re going to need something to suppliment your dietary restrictions.
I’ve seen these in the grocery, we’re not gluten free but we’ve dropped the sugar and grains from our foods. I’m gonna check these out next shopping trip!
Those look delicious. I’ve never seen them in my store though, I wonder if they carry them in Oklahoma?
YUM! The Glutino products look awesome!
I’ve actually seen this brand and almost bought it- we aren’t a gluten free home but the food just looked so good! I may have to pick up a few snacks after all.
