For many years when my children were growing up, I planned a Christmas Eve party just for them. We all dressed up in our best outfits, played games, danced, and had a jolly good time until bedtime. My family holiday tradition for Thanksgiving is making the entire Turkey dinner just like my mother made (minus the mashed turnips-my dad was the only one who ate them) now that my parents are passed. My mom was a fantastic cook! We always had a Hickory Farms summer sausage & a nice cheddar for appetizer with ritz crackers!
Our family tradition is to buy a Honey-Glazed Ham, since we all love it so much, and we all bring our favorite home made sidedishes. There’s a fire in the fireplace, candles everywhere and lots of fresh flowers. My favorite side dish is chestnut dressing, and I make a double batch every year.
we’re latino- so we always get together on x-mas eve for a big dinner of Paches, authentic dish from Guatemala! then we party and dance until midnight where we all light a candle and hold hands and repeat the prayer our holy father in spanish, and hug and kiss then open gifts. 🙂
Our holiday tradition is spending a weekend together near the holidays, cooking a special dinner such as Pork Crown Roast, Standing Rib Roast or thick cut Cowboy Ribeye’s (bone in Ribeye’s) and working on Gingerbread houses together…even at 30 years old, my daughter likes to do this. Love the Holiday’s with my family.
Holiday tradition, our daughters and daughter in law all come over the night before to help fix the dishes we need for Thanksgiving. I start the turkey early in the morning, so it is ready when they all arrive. We have an open buffet, we usually have between 15 to 25 people over for the day. Depending on the weather, if it is nice. I take a trip with kids and grandkids to cut down our tree. They all haul back to our house for hot chocolate and leftover turkey sandwiches
Santa brings presents and balloons too! So the kids wake up to the living room filled with balloons 🙂
I guess our only holiday tradition is to do most of it on Christmas Eve and just kind of lay around Christmas Day! As far as Thanksgivin traditions, it’s pretty much just all of us helping to make the traditional turkey dinner and then eating it! 🙂

We pick a tree out every year as a family, that’s a fun thing to do. And we open our gifts on Christmas Even so we’re not rushed on Christmas Day (because we go to grandma’s for the big family dinner).
We don’t have all that many traditions except to get together every year—that’s a pretty big deal now that we all live in different cities and different states.
We always go to my father’s in law house. The kids always make sure to always go home for Thanksgiving. When they were in college, many of them brought the same friends home with them every year & some of those still attend every year. We also eat pie first at noon!
Christmas Eve we always attend a candlelight service and then have appetizers and watch a movie.

My sisters and I go to my grandmothers house and make candy for everyone. Then we put it in bins to serve during our Thanksgiving and Christmas dinners.

We have several traditions but one that I’ve done with the kids every year is to get one of those Gingerbread house kits and let them decorate it together. It is such a fun evening and the times when they have trouble getting hte thing to stay together are the best — there is always lots of laughter and we look forward to it evry year!

Its just us (my husband, myself and our 5 kids). But we normally do appetizer night (lots of appetizers cold and hot plus snacky stuff) on Christmas Eve. The kids get to open up ONE gift that I have specially selected for them (a book, or pyjamas, or a stuffed animal normally). We watch Christmas specials. Christmas day the kids get their stockings, we eat the leftover appetizers from the night before, then we slowly open up gifts and we have a big turkey dinner around 6pm.

Our best Christmas tradition is the reading of The Nativity Story by candlelight on Christmas Eve . All the children take part by reading, holding the necessary flashlight for the reader or ringing the bells.

Christmas Eve day, we all have appetizers and drinks with my 98 year old Mother at her Senior’s Home. We then go to church followed by Chinese food. Xmas morning we have a special breakfast and open gifts. We just snack the rest of the day and enjoy Christmas day with walks and games. Boxing day, we have our big turkey dinner with family and friends.
