It seems the older the grandchildren get, the harder it is to decide what to send them. I already sent the older ones a gift card and a small wrapped gift, but I was still thinking about “something else”. I found some really cute things for kids of all ages on Karmaloop.com. They describe the clothing on there as ‘street gear’, a term I am really not familiar with, but the stuff they sell is really cute. [Read more…] about Still Need Gifts For The Grandchildren?

I have always loved Smartie’s. When I was a little girl, I bought them every chance I got. And now that I eat gluten free, I still buy them because the are gluten free! If you’ve never had them, they are sort of sweet, sort of tart, are soft and melt in your mouth–if you can keep from crunching them!
The Smartie’s folks sent me a big ol box of candy last week! It had a mutlipack of the Mega Smarties:
AND an assortment of other Smartie varieties:
I didn’t even know that Smarties came in a movie theatre box!
Look here at the label:
No gluten, no eggs, no barley, no oats, no milk, no fish, no peanuts, no soybeans!
This is what the Smarties website says:
Smarties® and our entire line of products are free from most of the known allergens. All products are free of milk, egg, fish, crustacean shellfish, tree nuts, peanuts, wheat and soy.
They are letting me give away a Smarties Gift Pack just like the one they sent me! So, to enter, just leave me a comment telling my why you are a Smartie! Use #Iamasmartie because in your comment!

That’s me and my Mama last week at her house. She is getting to the point where she needs some help around the house, so Fabgrandpa and I went over there and cleaned her house for her last week. She has a hard time standing up for any length of time now. She has everything she wants, so I decided to make her a handmade Christmas stocking and fill it with things she might like.
I picked out three pieces of fabric that looked all Christmas-y and stacked them one on top of the other.
I used a rotary cutter to cut 1.5 inch strips, then sewed the strips together. Once they were sewed together, I cut 1.5 inch strips again.
I layered a lining, a batting, and the finished patchwork fabric, then machine quilted it. Then I used a sock to trace a pattern to cut out the stocking. When it was finished, I went to Dollar General to buy some stuff to go in it.
Mama collects Santa Claus figurines, so I got one of these shelf sitter ones to go in her stocking.
And what is a stocking without candy? I always loved Smarties when I was a little girl, and now I love them because they are gluten free! I don’t know if Mama likes them or not, but I got them anyway and put them in her stocking. Now when I go over there, I can eat them if she doesn’t! I also got some chocolate and some coconut bon bons. My Dad always used to buy those when he was still alive.
When I got home, I gathered all the things I bought together so I could stuff that stocking. The bon bons wouldn’t fit, so I have to wrap those separate.
I think it turned out really cute, don’t you?
Have you heard of Red Clay Home? When Fabgrandpa and I had our last house, we collected pottery and various other forms of art that we loved. So, while we are waiting to hear whether or not we are approved by the lender to buy our next house, we have been looking at things we want to put in the house to make it our home. We want eco-friendly items, whether they are recycled from thrift stores, or they are new but made in environmentally friendly, sustainable ways. Red Clay Home is a website where you can get some very nice new pieces for your home that are absolutely gorgeous, without sacrificing the earth.
Their website describes their passion for art and design. When you purchase a Red Clay design, you are buying more than a vase or a pillow. You are supporting an idea, a community, a mission. Here is what they have to say:
“We stand by our belief that honest materials and honest manufacturing processes leaves little impact on the earth and its inhabitants with nothing to hide. Doing so can meet your unique needs and style at a competitive price. That standard is the future and we’re setting out to pave the way with your help.”
All Red Clay art prints are off-set lithograph prints done on archival quality, 100% post-consumer waste paper (that means no new paper was made to create this print!) with soy based ink (a renewable product and easier to recycle compared to the petrol-based inks traditionally used). Every product you buy from Red Clay is made in the USA from start to finish.
BUY IT! Check out the Red Clay Home website to see their beautiful designs.
WIN IT! One lucky reader will win a $59 gift code to shop for your own favorite piece from Red Clay Home. To win, just leave a comment telling me which piece you would choose!

I know everyone has at least one old gift card laying around, that still has money on it, and has not expired. You may no longer live near that store chain, or there is not enough money on the card to get something you really want. So, it lays around, collecting dust, while the store pockets the money paid without having to cash in on it. [Read more…] about Got Gift Cards You Won’t Use?
I have joked around with Fabgrandpa for several years now, telling him that I want to get re-married to him when we celebrate our 20 year anniversary. That date is coming up sooner than he thinks. On July 18, 2012, we’ll be married for twenty years! It is really hard to believe. [Read more…] about Planning A Re-Wedding…
Now that we are buying a little house to live in part of the year, I have been thinking about what I need to stock the pantry with. There are all kinds of cute storage containers and bins that I have seen in stores and on the internet. [Read more…] about Stocking The Pantry
I meant to tell you about this the other day. We have stayed at the West 40 RV Park in Shamrock, Texas several times now. We stop there on our way to Arizona in the spring, and again on our way back east in the fall. The little old lady who owns the place is such a sweetheart! The first time we met her, we went in to register and pay for our campsite, and she came in using a walker, and had a neck brace on. She gave us directions to a a good place to eat, and also told us where to get the best deal on tires for our trailer in Shamrock.
