The weather has warmed up, and you have cabin fever. Why not take a roadtrip to Austin, Texas, and discover what the music city is all about. Even if you’ve been there a hundred times, the trip will give you few hours behind the wheel of your car, and that could be satisfying in itself. Just getting out of the house after a dreary winter can cheer you up big time.
With more than 120 music venues across the city, you are sure to find one or two to suit your taste. Whether it’s blues, jazz, country, rock and roll, or anything in between, you’ll find it in Austin . Don’t miss Austin City Limits Live at the Moody Theater. The famous TV show is recorded there but they also host public concerts by acts of every genre imaginable.
If it’s food you’re looking for, Austin has a large variety of restaurants from which to choose. From barbecue, to Mexican, Tex Mex, Southwestern, Chinese, Seafood, Steaks—whatever you are craving can usually be found at one of the many restaurants in Austin. Be sure to check out Gus’s Fried Chicken or The Best Wurst, both in Austin and famous for their food.
If you have never been to Austin, a must see is the Congress Avenue Bridge at sunset. The reason? Between 750,000 and 1.5 million bats fly out from under the bridge each evening. The best viewing dates are between April and October.
Austin also offers a ton of outdoor activities, from walking and running, to kayaking, swimming, golf, Barton Springs Pool is the oldest swimming pool in Texas, and has a shallow end perfect for kids. During the summer they host Splash Party Movie Nights with family friendly movies. Take a Segway Tour of the city, a boat ride on Lake Travis, or a train ride on the Zikler Zepher around Lake Lady Bird. There is so much to do that you could take a roadtrip every month and not do it all!
