I told you about how Fabgrandpa was feeling off balance for over a year last week. The day I showed him the website I found with all the side effects of the prescription drug he was taking, he quit taking it. We made a little video six days later to show how he was feeling. See for yourself:

Glad you’ve made some progress! He looks happy and healthy in the video.
Doctors are notoriously awful at warning their patients about side effects, and they aren’t much better at diagnosing them, either. ALWAYS do your research before filling a prescription. If you start having mysterious symptoms, consider any medication or supplements to be your primary suspects. Yes, even vitamins can give you nasty side effects if there’s an ingredient in them that your body is sensitive to (it happened to me).
Pharmacists are also a vastly unappreciated resource. They’re more than just the person in the lab coat behind the CVS counter who fills your prescription. They spend many years in intense training learning the ins-and-outs of medication. Your average pharmacist is far better equipped to diagnose side effects and drug interactions than your average doctor simply because they have more extensive training in that area. Consider them an important part of your health care, and seek out their advice if you’re aren’t feeling well. You’d be surprised at the kind of valuable insight they can give you.

I have to wonder if my Mom’s meds might be making her have dizzy spells. She has been on a lot of meds since being diagnosed with congestive heart failure & taking a bad fall that led to having a huge chunk of muscle, etc., removed from her leg. There must be side effects to taking so many meds.

What a story. Listening to your gut is such great advice.

This is such an important group of posts you’ve done. The side effects of some medications are far more worse than the effects you’re suffering from.
Kay Adeola says
Most of the medication people are given makes them feel worse and causes more damage to the body than what they had in the first place.I am always careful with what we take.
Jeanine says
Wow, Posts like these and stories like these are so important. I am only on one prescription and I’ve been on it since I was about 13…. I’m always sure to check what I take!
Jaime says
I’ve had this thought in the past two weeks. I recently switched allergy meds and almost immediately developed headaches. When I don’t take that medication, I have no headaches.
Amber C. says
Wow such great advice! I am so leery of taking medications! It’s scary what could be in there!
Catherine S says
I try to take a little medication as I can. It seems like the side effects from the medicine cause you more problems than the original issue. Thanks for making people aware of this.
Liz Mays says
It’s definitely difficult for doctors to have a full picture of your daily life and symptoms. It’s important to have and awareness of your own body and the side effects of your medications.
Pam says
It’s important to make sure you are aware of what’s going on with your body. Doctors don’t know everything all the time.
Marcie W. says
Sometimes taking prescription medication for a problem can make you feel worse than the original problem itself. I will always feel that we know our bodies best.
Cinny says
I think it depends on the person. Always consider the pros and cons and make an informed decision.
Beth@KCMompreneurs says
It is important to listen to your body and follow up on what you are taking.
Sabrina @ Dinner, then Dessert says
You really have to make your doctor listen to you when you describe your symptoms these days! They’re so overworked they might miss something!
Penelope says
I’m so glad he’s feeling better! I know as a mom I have learned to trust my gut when it comes to my family’s health.

Fabgrandpa is back to being fab again. Thanks for sharing the update with us. I will be a little more mindful of how I feel after taking medication now.

Wow… a great post. I know someone who is constantly at the doctor and on various medications, I always have to wonder how much of she actually needs and if some of them are making her worse and not better.
Christie says
So many side effects and interactions these days! Definitely go with how you are feeling!
Ann Bacciaglia says
Medication can be so tricky to find the right one that works best for you. There are so many side effects with medicine.
Theresa says
I know mine did! I ended up chucking it against doctor’s orders, went with a more natural approach, and never felt better!

I am supposed to be on meds for multiple issues. I dont take any though because they always make me sick and often make my problems worse.

I love your advice to listen to your body. It really does seem to know the right ways to alert you when there is a challenge.

I agree, always question your doctor. Listen to your body first!

These are greats topics- I’ve had side effects make me feel worse than when I started. I was so surprised about even taking too much headache medicine can harm you
Debbie L. says
I agree listening to your body is key to living a healthy life. So many medications have side effects that are not listed.
Monique Burkes (@monidevone) says
This is scary, Karen. It’s important to pay attention to how your body reacts and to the side effects of your meds.
brandyellen says
It is so scary that your medication can mess you all up – my middle child was on a medication that really messed him up .. body image wise, it was a nightmare but nothing like what you have shared here. I cannot imagine learning that the medication you are suppose to take to be/feel better is making that person sick. Hang in there!
Anne says
Hooray! I’m sorry I missed this post originally; I had been following your husband’s saga and wondered how he was getting along. Thank goodness he’s over that awful off-balance feeling. Good for you for not giving up and finding the solution.
