Last Saturday was my birthday, my 62nd one. The one that makes me old enough to apply for Social Security retirement benefits. I had wanted to work until I was 64, but you all know what happens when we’re busy making plans. Fabgrandpa and I didn’t do anything special. We just sat around the house and watched TV, which was fine with me. Last Saturday was also my granddaughter, Amelia’s birthday. She turned 4 years old, and celebrated with a princess cake. We tried to do a Facetime chat but it didn’t work, so maybe we’ll try again this weekend.
On Sunday, two of my girls came over and did a “spring cleaning” of our house. They vacuumed, swept, and mopped all the floors. Took down all the curtains and washed and ironed them and put them back up.
They vacuumed all the walls, the ceiling, the window sills, and anywhere else they found cobwebs. It was amazing to be able to just sit in my recliner and watch them work. It was a labor of love for them, and I loved them for doing it. I want to add here that Fabgrandpa does all the regular cleaning, laundry, and yard work that gets done around here, and he is busy every single day doing something the things that make our home presentable. I love him so much for taking care of it, and taking care of me.
Becky also brought things to make sandwiches: ham and turkey and cheese and bread and pickles. Emily and I enjoyed a glass of white Moscato wine with our sandwiches. It was a pretty good day, and one of the most thoughtful birthday presents I have ever received. Thank you, girls! While we were eating lunch, they decided they would do this for us on a quarterly basis, and that is most welcome to hear.
I received birthday cards from my son, his wife, and his children. It was fun to see Owen’s and Amelia’s painstakingly scribbled names where they signed my card. They are doing great at writing. The card I received from my mother included a nice picture of Ulysses S. Grant. She IS a yankee from Detroit, ya know. And the last present, but one I thoroughly appreciate, was a box of Ruby Red Grapefruit from Pittman & Davis that Becca sent me. It arrived this week, and I couldn’t wait to eat one! They came from Harlingen, Texas, which is where I was living when I learned to love this delicious fruit.
It turned out to be a pretty good birthday. Can’t wait for the next one.

I think that was oh so sweet of the girls. You could send them my way. 😉
