The Holiday season is a great time to honor Grandma by making a donation in her name to a charitable organization. The Red Cross is helping people affected by Hurricane Sandy by providing shelter, food, and hygiene kits to more than 60,000 people. Financial donations make the greatest and most immediate impact, helping the Red Cross provide shelter, food, emotional support and other assistance to those affected by disasters like Hurricane Sandy.
It’s easy as 1. 2. 3. to make a donation to the Red Cross. They even have a choice of making a donation in honor of someone. When you make a donation to the Red Cross, you are helping them provide not only disaster relief, but also aid to military families, health and safety training, and blood drives. Your donation doesn’t have to be big to help.

Elizabeth says
We NEVER EVER give a thin dime to this organization. They charge, even for coffee…even though folks donate to them. They caused us a great deal of problems while hubby was in the Navy during the early 1970’s. Then in 1987 when I had to have an exploratory and hysterectomy done, I had to sign a paper NOT to give me a transfusion if needed. Because the Red Cross had control and THEY said I could not designate my donor…and this with AIDS already rearing its ugly head. Not only that, if I had had time, I could not at that time even store up my own blood. So I went into that double surgery, a hurry up one I might add, with a small child at home, knowing I could die due to blood loss…BECAUSE OF THEM!!! Thanks so much!! So that ended all blood donations or otherwise for us. I know they have changed some rules now. But the nasty taste remains in my mind. My docs were good surgeons and I did ok. But no thanks to them. There are so many many organizations who give nearly every cent given to them. One does not need to give to those who do not.
