When the phone rings in the night, you always brace yourself for the worst, or at least I do . So when it rang this morning before my normal getting up time, I was immediately worried. It was my son, calling to tell me that my grandson, Owen, was moved to intensive care during the night. And then he cried.
Owen went into the hospital last Friday to have routine tonsilectomy. How many young children have this done every single day and then go home and eat popscicles for a couple of days? I have never heard of anyone having serious complications from such a routine proceedure.
It all started when the little guy aspirated some fluid into his lungs during the surgery. He has been treated for pneumonia and MRSA since then, with first one anti-biotic and then another for almost a week. I don’t know as I sit in the Atlanta airport waiting for my flight to DC exactly what happened during the night, but they are talking about doing a tracheotomy and “intervention” which involves placeing a tube down his throat to help him breathe.
Please keep Owen, his Mom and Dad, and the rest of our family in your thoughts and prayers. I’ll update as soon as I know more. Thank you.

Please keep your “Facebook family” posted as things progress. May God bless him and all of you and give you comfort, healing and peace of mind!

oh no!! My thoughts will be with you all!! I hope they don’t have to go that route and the antibiotics and things finally kick in and make him well again! From working as a medical transcriptionist for almost 10 years now, I’ll just say things can and do go wrong with stuff you’d never think it could happen with. It’s scary.
