I promised my granddaughter, Sarah, that I would make her a backpack, um, way back in March. I have been busy on my days off since then that I haven’t had time to do it. So, this week, I gathered up the fabrics, and the notions, and got down to business with it.
Since Sarah lives in Tennessee and I live in Arizona, I have been putting pictures of fabric choices, patterns, and embroidered patches on her mother’s Facebook wall as we plan this project. She picked the Pink and Purple fabrics.
She picked the Grand Canyon patch to put on the front of her bag. After we got all the choosing over with, I cut the fabric on Wednesday, and started sewing it together. Everything was going along just fine until this happened:
After I got the zipper sewn into the top of the backpack, and went to close the zipper, the dang zipper pull came off. I tried, but couldn’t get it back on there. So, the sewing came to a screeching halt, and today I have a date with my old friend, The Seam Ripper. Oh, I can hardly wait for that!
I did get the front and back of the backpack all ready, so that when I do get the top finished, I can put the whole thing together.
And see, I really CAN put in a zipper:
