I got to thinking about this today, because my niece, Stefanie, is getting married in just a couple of weeks. She and her sweetie are going to Jamaica for their honeymoon. FabGrandpa and I never took a honeymoon. We will be married 19 years in July. We went on a trip to Gatlingburg for a weekend, but it was before we were married. So, I have been thinking about us taking a trip for our 20th anniversary, next year.
I have always wanted to go to Cabo San Lucas, down in the baja of Mexico. I have dreamed about those white sand beaches, the seafood, the little thatched roof beach huts. But, he has always wanted to to to Costa Rica. When he was recuperating from his accident back in 1992 thru 1994, thinking about and talking about going on a trip to Costa Rica is what kept him sane. But, although we have always talked about going, we have never done it.
Today, when I was thinking about this, I found a beautiful place in Santa Teresa, Costa Rica. The honeymoon packages there started at $1145 per person, but there were other vacation packages starting as low as $545 per person that would make a great honeymoon trip. So, what do you think? Should we plan on a honeymoon for our 20 year anniversary? If you were planning a surprise trip, would you plan a trip to where your sweetheart wanted to go, or would you plan one where you want to go? Oh, the decisions!

I think you should do both! No, seriously, I think it depends upon when you can get away. Figure that out, then check out the weather and go to the one that has the best weather at that time. Then plan for another trip the following year!

We have never had a honeymoon either — this year will be our 30th…maybe we should plan a trip too!

Alan, my husband, and I have been married for a little over 30 years now. When we got married, we stayed at the Stone Mountain Inn inside Stone Mountain Park in Stone Mountain, Georgia. In fact, Alan’s Dad paid for our stay, otherwise we would have sat at home twiddling our thumbs due to lack of funds. It was a very nice trip and we really enjoyed ourselves. In 2006, for our 25th wedding anniversary, I planned a two week driving trip of Florida, the Key’s back up the East Coast of Florida and on to Savannah, GA. We had a great time and I planned the whole trip with all kinds of surprises for Alan at each stop.
I think you should do what makes both of you happy, but do it. I am already thinking about our 40th….I would like to rent a motor home and see all the places in America I haven’t seen yet. 🙂

Heck, I’m still waiting for a date. And Costa Rica would be just fine. Nice job. I set up something new on my blog at your suggestion. I’m sure it needs work.
