I missed the last Blogger’s Quilt Festival, because I didn’t find out about it until after it was over. I have had this one on my calendar for quite some time, just waiting to be able to participate.
I have been working on a lot of projects lately, from re-doing my RV bedroom, to making an elegant handbag for my sister for my niece’s wedding, to finishing up the T-Shirt quilt for Judy. I also have been trying to finish up a quilt for my son, Seth, and his wife, Sarah. The quilt I am making for them may look familiar to you, because I made one in the same pattern for Becca, which was finished last October.
I started the one for Seth at the same time I started Becca’s but since I DO sew for other people, and sew other things for sale, I have pushed his aside too many times. So, I am not allowing myself to start or work on any other projects until I get this quilt finished. (well, while it is gone to the quilter I can do something else). I have finished the top, and am working on the back. I think the next time I get a day off from work it will be ready to go out to Jorja, the lady who does quilting for me on a long arm machine. I am really excited to get it so close to finished.
This quilt, and the one I made for Becca, have not been easy quilts for me to make. As a matter of fact, if I had not already started the one for Seth, I would never have made a second one after Becca’s was finished. I would have used a different pattern. However, I have met the challenges these two quilts have presented me, and am very proud of the results.
Now, I am piecing the back, so this quilt will be very interesting on both sides. Can’t wait to get it done and show you!

There is so much work in this quilt. I have to admire your patience! It looks great. I am sure they will love it.

Wow, coincidentally, I am also working on a Lone Star quilt right now. It is my oldest UFO… about 10 years old! And I had started to hand quilt it, so am committed to finish it that way, but I love the machine quilting on your Becca quilt. Will you be doing the same here? When it comes to traditional quilts, this is still one of my favorites!
Fab Grandma says
Angie, thanks for the compliments! Because I live in such a small space, I don’t do my own quilting on anything larger than a baby or crib quilt. I send them all out to a long arm quilter. I let her use her creativity to come up with the quilting designs to compliment my work. She has done a very good job for me so far.

I have always wanted to make a Lone Star quilt. You have reminded me of how pretty they are. Your quilt is so beautiful! Wonderful work.
Anne says
Just stunning and is it correct that you are doing this in your RV? That is amazing. What kind of machine do you have? I was looking for one of the Singer Featherweights to take in our RV. I love your bedroom makeover, too. The fabrics are gorgeous.
Virginia from That Bald Chick says
Now THAT is just gorgeous!

I love Lone Star quilts. When you piece inside of the diamonds they become even more fascinating. Wonderful!

Two times in a row with the same pattern–you go girl!!! I like the green with the strip to offset the purple and yellow. TY for sharing!
Rachel says
Great quilt!! You are better than me just by finishing this quilt. There have been a few tops of mine that are totally unfinished because they were way to frustrating to make!! LOL Thanks for sharing your quilt top!
Cheers!

Wonderful quilt – I think Seth is a lucky guy! I love your colour choice.

You know quilting isn’t my thing but wow I sure enjoy looking at your work. Did I tell you yet that you are an amazing lady, I am picturing your work space then I think of mine and how I can put your RV in my work space and still not have enough room. I had better be careful or I’ll have a bunch of organizers at my door next. Now that blogger is working again I can post, have a great weekend

I really like your quilt. I have been tempted to try this, but it does look very daunting. I love the colors you chose for this one. Congratulations on making two of these.

Wow, so impressive that you are making two of these! I particularly love how the one light blue row gives the one such a sparkle. Great job!

A Lone Star quilt does take time and patience. Did you use paper piecing? That is how I did mine and I enjoyed the process (although I haven’t made another one).
Fab Grandma says
No paper piecing–I did strip pieceing on it, then cut on an angle to get the stars done.
Cecily says
This lone star is beautiful – I’ve been wanting to make one for a while now – definitely need to get started on that. I love the shot of the quilt with the sun shining behind it. Awesome!
Beth Wylie says
Beautiful Quilt!
We’re considering visiting the North Rim soon. Can you give us an insider’s view/perspective of what to visit and where to stay? We’re considering one of the NF campgrounds- but we’d love your opinion. We’ll be traveling from the Verde Valley in Az. Thanks!
Manda says
It looks fantastic!

I love the lone star pattern- It is a challenging pattern but it turns out so beautifully that it is well worth the work. Did you strip piece the diamonds or do it individual template diamonds? I love the color choices that you made and the way you set it on a black background. It sets it off so beautifully. Thanks for sharing- Enjoy the festival!
Regards,
Anna
Fab Grandma says
It was strip pieced. I would have really lost my mind with diamond shapes.
Marci Girl says
Very pretty quilt! I love that you set aside everything to “get it finished!” Great job!
Hollie says
So gorgeous! I can’t wait to see it finished.
ANN WIGHT says
Oh my. I just got done making a lonestar in a broken star pattern. I can not imagine turning around and making a second one. I can appreciate your efforts. Way to go and in your RV~! Thank goodness for strip piecing.
Cindy Of PEI says
Shame you missed the quilt festival, you had a good chance at first prize. Your patch work is so nice.
Terri says
Beautiful quilts, I wish I knew how to make them.

Hi 🙂
I followed your link over from Amy’s quilt link up party.
I like the contrast between the blues and the black on the one quilt. However, I will tell you that looking at the pattern rather set my vertigo to reeling. Mercy. ;-p
I would have never thought that a quilt made with that much black and gray fabrics in it would be as beautiful as yours turned out to be. Impressive!
I too am a grandma (LOVE that title!!). The quilt I am linking up is the one that I made last spring for our grand daughter. If you’d like to see it, you can find it here –> http://thebzhousethatlovebuilt.blogspot.com/2011/05/my-thrifty-quilt.html
Thanks for sharing your works of art with us! I wish you great success in finishing the second one.
Sue says
the lone star is certainly a challanging quilt pattern but you have done it justice.
Mama Mel says
Lovely quilt! 🙂
Mary says
Lone Stars are quite a bit of work, but they are worth it. Both of yours look beautiful. Congratulations on a job well done!
