We are all still sick, but even sick people need supplies, so we went to the gas station and to Whole Foods today. The price of diesel is still coming down, as you can see from the photo above. It hasn’t been that low in seems like forever, or at least since 2004. I could be wrong, and if I am I am blaming it on all the cold medicine I have taken this week. My head feels all poofy inside from it.
At Whole Foods, I had to restrain myself from taking out my camera and taking pictures of the breads. They had a whole freezer section full of gluten free goodies: breads, bagels, pies, biscuits, muffins, cupcakes, donuts…I had a hard time deciding what to get, but wound up with just a loaf of white bread and some bagels. But, then, in the fresh baked stuff, there was this:
Believe me when I tell you it was icky, sticky, gooey, fantabulously good. They called it Orange Clouds. I called it delicious~!

You must be feeling a little better after that, it looks delicious.
I’m going to try to make a soft chocolate cake thing.

Oh my god! They didn’t have anything like that at my Whole Foods!
Oh, and regular at the station on the corner is now $2.06!

So why is ‘gluten free’ twice as expensive? I have looked at pizza shells that are gluten free, and here for a package of 4 6″ shells, it is $7.00. Add to that the cost of soy cheese ($6.00 a TINY BLOCK) and then some soy pepperoni ($5.00 a pack), I can go broke trying to eat! The bread I eat is $5.00 a loaf, wheat/gluten free, which is double the cost of a normal loaf. My stuff never goes on sale. Sorry to rant, but it drives me nuts. I don’t have a choice in what I buy, but it limits my choices in what I end up eating purely for cost. In Canada, we have Starbucks and Tim Hortons. Starbucks is twice as expensive, but they have the option of soy milk. Tim Hortons, which is also Canada wide, but less than half the price, doesn’t. It is black or nothing. Sometimes it feels like having food allergies (for lack of a better word) is something to be punished for here. Do you find the same?

anonymous: First, I really wish you had left your name and a way to contact you. Second, yes, the foods I need to eat are generally more expensive, because they are not mass produced. So what? I am spending less on medications, I feel so much better, and I am making better food choices than before.
Yes, the bread costs more, but that just means I eat less of it, which is ok, because I was eating more than I should have anyway.

I can just imagine the look on your face as you devoured it.

I am going to have to look closer at my WF for something like that. We do have the large freezers with bread, but not something that looks this yummy.

I think that as soon as I get to Seattle I will be checking around for a Whole Food store. I hope they have that exact item. Seems that all my American friends shop there.
Glad that you could taste that. When my head gets stoinked up my sinus problems don’t let me taste anything.

I hope you are all back to 100% soon. I bet that orange cloud must have helped make you feel better – if only temporarily! It looked delish!

I don’t know how that happened, but I was the ‘anonymous’. Sorry bout that! I guess my post came off as more of a rant than I meant it too, yes it is worth it to pay more and suffer less, lol, it just means it’s a pain in the neck instead of a pain in the stomache!
